The Organizing Committee cordially invites scientists, experts, and researchers to submit papers for the conference "National Master Khuong Viet and Vietnamese Buddhism in the early era of independence," to be held in March 2011.Grand Master Khuong Viet (933 – 1011) was a National Master and Prime Minister, an outstanding cultural figure, politician, diplomat, and military leader of his time. On the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the passing of National Master Khuong Viet (1011 - 2011, Lunar Calendar: February 15th, Year of the Pig - February 15th, Year of the Rabbit), the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in collaboration with the Vietnam Buddhist Academy in Hanoi and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, organized an international scientific conference entitled “National Master Khuong Viet and Vietnamese Buddhism in the Early Era of Independence” in March 2011.
1. Purpose of the Workshop
The purpose of the conference is to discuss, evaluate, and honor the stature of National Master Khuong Viet, as well as the role of Vietnamese Buddhism in the early era of independence and today.2. Content of the Workshop
To achieve the above objectives, the Conference focuses on researching and discussing the following specific scientific issues: - The economic, political, ideological, cultural, and religious context of Vietnam at the beginning of the independence era. - National Master Khuong Viet: Life, religious career, and contributions (Research on the life and religious career of National Master Khuong Viet; the relationship, position, and role of National Master Khuong Viet in the contemporary Vietnamese political system; the contributions of National Master Khuong Viet to national politics, ideology, and culture, as well as contributions to the development of Vietnamese Buddhism; etc.) - The influence of Vietnamese Buddhism on Vietnamese history at the beginning of the independence era (Research on the role and specific contributions of Buddhism, especially Zen masters, in the political, diplomatic, ideological, cultural, and religious aspects of Vietnam at the beginning of the independence era). - Buddhism in the process of Vietnamese social development today (A study of the position, role, and contributions of Vietnamese Buddhism to specific issues such as: Building national unity; The influence of Buddhism on the ethics and lifestyle of Vietnamese people; The role of Buddhism in preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of the nation; etc.).3. Languages used in the Workshop
- The conference will be conducted in Vietnamese and English. The conference organizers will arrange translation if papers are written in other languages.4. Time of organization
The workshop is scheduled to be held over two days, March 19-20, 2011.5. Venue
