Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thua Hy

According to Vnexpress.net, his latest book, "Thang Long - Hanoi in the Eyes of a Hanoian," is written simply, reflecting the concerns of a native of Hanoi. In the final section, titled "Hanoi in a Perspective," he expresses his views on the shortcomings of the capital's population. "We must confront the dark sides, manifested through real vices: vanity and a preference for superficial appearances, conservatism and a lack of creativity in work, passivity to ingrained customs. And recently, alarming manifestations of apathy... The overall picture of Hanoi's contemporary urban population remains a multifaceted one, making it difficult to define and assess its quality. To date, unfortunately, there has been no scientific research on the social stratification of contemporary Hanoi's urban community," he writes.

Writing about the value of the work "Thang Long - Hanoi in the 17th, 18th, and 19th Centuries" – a representative scientific work of researcher Nguyen Thua Hy, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Van Quan (Head of the History Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) commented: By exploiting diverse sources of information, especially those written in Western languages (English, French), and processing them carefully, methodically, and effectively, this work has depicted the appearance of Thang Long - Hanoi through various periods, especially the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, highlighting the socio-economic structure, economic activities of Thang Long - Hanoi during these centuries, and the policies of Vietnamese feudal states regarding this issue through the case of Thang Long - Hanoi. The insightful analyses of economic structure, social structure, class mechanisms, and class interaction; The generalizations about the factors of urban development and flourishing, the urban-rural relationship, the duality of state and people in urban areas, and the forms of urban development and transformation have become important theses with widespread influence among researchers both domestically and internationally, as well as undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students when approaching the socio-history of Vietnam during the medieval period. This work has become a representative study on Thang Long - Hanoi, frequently cited by researchers both domestically and internationally when studying Vietnamese history in general and the history of Thang Long - Hanoi in particular (Excerpt from the book "Portraits of Outstanding Educators and Scientists of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi 1945-2015").
