From November 23rd to 27th, 2013, a delegation of scientists from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – Vietnam National University, Hanoi, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Vice Rector), attended an international scientific conference at the Department of Political Science, National Taiwan University.

In his opening remarks at the conference, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim emphasized: The conference, organized by the Department of Political Science at National Taiwan University, takes place against the backdrop of Vietnam's active preparations for summarizing the fundamental and outstanding achievements after 30 years of reform. Similarly, in China, since implementing its reform and opening-up policy in 1978, China has achieved many important results. However, after more than three decades of rapid development, China is facing significant challenges in all aspects: political, economic, social, and cultural… This is the first international conference between two leading universities in Taiwan and Vietnam, an effort by the leadership and experts to contribute to clarifying and resolving some aspects and issues in the reform and opening-up process over the past three decades in both Vietnam and China.
The conference concluded successfully, with presentations and comments from scholars being discussed enthusiastically, frankly, and with high academic merit. Using a specialized approach combined with interdisciplinary research, employing comparative research methods, experts in fields such as comparative political science, history, economics, sociology, and religious studies clarified the similarities and differences between Vietnam and China.
In addition to attending the International Scientific Conference, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim, along with other scientists in the delegation, visited the Center for Chinese Studies and held working meetings with the leaders of the Institute of Social Sciences and the Department of Political Science, National Taiwan University. The two sides discussed and proposed several areas of cooperation to concretize the spirit of the recently signed agreement between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – VNU Hanoi and the Institute of Social Sciences – National Taiwan University.
