Expressing gratitude for the contributions of generations of teachers.

NOn November 19, 2013, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities organized a ceremony to celebrate Vietnamese Teachers' Day with the participation of many generations of teachers, scientists, students, and trainees from various courses.

Attending the commemoration ceremony were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Duc (Vice Director of VNU Hanoi), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Huong (Head of the Political and Student Affairs Department, VNU Hanoi).

 

In his welcoming speech, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) expressed his deep gratitude to the generations of veteran teachers who made great contributions to the early stages of building and developing the University; he also thanked the teachers, students, and trainees present today for their dedication and contributions to the common cause of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Announcing the achievements of the University in the past academic year, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh emphasized: “The University has always maintained its position as a key member and a leading force in all activities of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU).” The University completed the transformation of 23 undergraduate training programs and 54 postgraduate training programs according to output standards, while also opening many new training majors to meet social needs. The scale of postgraduate enrollment is expanding, with postgraduate students accounting for 35% of the total student and trainee population of the entire university. Scientific research has achieved many outstanding results with 12 state-level and protocol-level projects, 4 award-winning works of VNU, successfully organized 30 conferences and seminars, including 14 international conferences, and published 30 international articles. The university signed and renewed 32 cooperation agreements, bringing the total number of partners to 180, many of which are highly ranked globally. This academic year, nine more faculty members were recognized with the titles of Professor and Associate Professor, raising the percentage of faculty members holding these titles to 23% of the total number of lecturers.

 

Through its training and research activities, the capacity and standing of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have been enhanced. The University was honored to receive visits and working sessions from President Truong Tan Sang and Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan, demonstrating the special attention of the Party and State to social sciences and humanities, and to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular. The University is also a prime example among Vietnamese higher education institutions to welcome world scientists and heads of state for visits and collaborative exchanges.

Expressing his appreciation for the position and contributions of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to the development of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) and the country's science and education, Professor Nguyen Huu Duc (Vice Director of VNU) stated: “In the journey of building and developing VNU towards a research university orientation, the VNU leadership deeply understands that social sciences and humanities play a fundamental role, creating a foundation for the development of science and technology, natural sciences, and VNU itself.” Despite already being a university with a high position in the Vietnamese education system, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities always strives to set higher goals for itself and does not rest on its laurels.

The Vice Rector of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) also announced that the Prime Minister has just issued a new Decree on VNU – this is an important event, opening up opportunities and favorable conditions for the sustainable, autonomous, and highly innovative development of VNU and its member universities in the coming period. In this context, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will continue to be entrusted by VNU with major scientific tasks such as key research programs in social sciences and humanities, summarizing the development of social sciences and humanities after 30 years of national reform…

Professor Nguyen Huu Duc also extended his congratulations to the teachers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, expressing his hope that they will always maintain their enthusiasm for teaching, contribute to building a humane and scientific educational environment, and contribute to the sustainable development of the University and Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

The ceremony also honored 3 teachers who received the Third-Class Labor Medal, 4 teachers who received Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister, and 9 teachers who were newly recognized as professors and associate professors in the past academic year.
