NOn November 19, 2013, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a ceremony to celebrate Vietnamese Teachers' Day with the participation of many generations of teachers, scientists, students and trainees of all courses.
In his welcoming speech, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) expressed his deep gratitude to generations of veteran teachers who have made great contributions to the process of building and developing the University in the early stages; at the same time, he thanked the teachers, students and trainees today for their close relationship and contributions to the common cause of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Announcing the results achieved by the University in the past school year, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh emphasized: "The University has always maintained its position as a key member, a leading flag in all activities of VNU". The University has completed the conversion according to the output standards of 23 undergraduate training programs, 54 postgraduate training programs, and opened many new training majors to meet social needs. The scale of postgraduate enrollment is increasingly expanding, the number of postgraduate students accounts for 35% of the total scale of students and trainees of the whole university. Scientific research has achieved many outstanding achievements with 12 State-level and Protocol-level topics, 04 works winning awards from VNU, successfully organizing 30 seminars and conferences, including 14 international seminars, and publishing 30 international articles. The school signed and renewed 32 cooperation agreements, bringing the number of partners to 180, many of which are highly ranked in the world. This school year, 9 more teachers were recognized as Professors and Associate Professors, bringing the percentage of teachers with academic titles to 23% of the total number of lecturers.
Through training and scientific research activities, the capacity and position of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have been enhanced. The University was honored to receive a visit and work from President Truong Tan Sang and Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan, demonstrating the special attention of the Party and State to Social Sciences and Humanities and to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular. The University is also a typical address of Vietnamese higher education institutions to welcome scientists and world leaders to visit and establish cooperative relations.
Expressing his appreciation for the position and contribution of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to the development of VNU and the country's science and education, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Duc (Vice President of VNU) said: "In the process of building and developing VNU towards a research university, VNU leaders deeply recognize that Social Sciences and Humanities plays a fundamental role, creating a foundation for the development of science and technology, natural sciences, etc. and for VNU". Although it is a university with a high position in the Vietnamese education system, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities always strives to set higher goals to strive for and is not satisfied with the results it has achieved.
The Vice President of VNU also announced: The Prime Minister has just issued a new Decree on VNU - this is an important event, opening up opportunities and favorable conditions for sustainable development, autonomy and high creativity of VNU and its member schools in the upcoming development journey. In that context, VNU will continue to trust the University of Social Sciences and Humanities with major scientific tasks such as key research programs on Social Sciences and Humanities, summarizing the development of Social Sciences and Humanities after 30 years of national renovation, etc.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Duc also sent his congratulations to the teachers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities with the hope that the teachers will always maintain their enthusiasm for teaching, contribute to building a humanistic and scientific educational environment, and contribute to the sustainable development of the University and VNU.
The ceremony also honored 03 teachers who received the Third Class Labor Medal, 04 teachers who received Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister and 09 teachers who were newly recognized as professors and associate professors in the past school year.
