Meeting with the Director of the ASEAN Studies Center, Tamkang University (Taiwan)

On August 31, 2018, Professor Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) and representatives from the Cooperation and Development Office met and worked with Dr. Joyce Juo-Yu Lin (Director of the ASEAN Studies Center, Tamkang University, Taiwan).

During the meeting, Professor Pham Quang Minh introduced the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, emphasizing its internationalization strategy and expansion of international relations. He highlighted that educational and research institutions in Taiwan are important partners of the University. The Rector stated that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is one of only two universities in Vietnam with a Taiwan Education Center. Each year, the Center collaborates in organizing the Taiwan Education Exhibition, with the participation of dozens of Taiwanese universities. The Rector expressed hope that the University and the ASEAN Studies Center (Tamkang University) would soon implement practical collaborations such as faculty and student exchanges, joint research, and joint seminars.

On behalf of the ASEAN Studies Center, Dr. Joyce Juo-Yu Lin expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. She stated that Tamkang University is ready to welcome its students, trainees, and faculty for academic exchange and interaction. She also extended an invitation to scholars from the University to attend a conference on international relations organized by Tamkang University in September 2018.

Professor Pham Quang Minh highly appreciated the invitation from Dr. Joyce Juo-Yu Lin. In return, the Rector invited her to attend a workshop on the prospects of Southeast Asian studies in November 2018. The Rector stated that Southeast Asian studies is a field with great potential for development and an area where both sides can focus on cooperation in the future. The Cooperation and Development Office will be the focal point for implementing specific bilateral proposals.

Founded in 1950, the UniversityTam Kang University is the oldest and most prestigious private university in Taiwan. Currently, it has four main campuses, eleven constituent schools, 17 doctoral programs, 50 graduate programs, and 50 departments, with 28,000 students. Tam Kang University has received numerous awards both domestically and internationally. In 2007, it was ranked 463rd in the world, 31st in Asia, and 7th in Taiwan.
