Certificates were awarded to staff and reporters of the Vietnam Law Newspaper for the "Basic Journalism Skills" course.

On August 31st, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a closing ceremony and awarded certificates for the "Basic Journalism Skills" course to young staff and reporters of the Vietnam Law Newspaper.

This is a class organized by the Vietnam Law Newspaper in collaboration with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Attending on behalf of the University was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Nam (Head of Training Department). Representing the Vietnam Law Newspaper were Dr. Dao Van Hoi (Editor-in-Chief), Mr. Tran Duc Vinh (Deputy Editor-in-Chief), along with other staff and reporters from the newspaper.

Reporting on the class's learning outcomes, Mr. Tran Ngoc Ha (Head of the Culture and Society Department, Vietnam Law Newspaper) stated: “The class consisted of 41 students from various departments and divisions of the newspaper, participating in 19 training sessions and a field trip to Thai Nguyen. The students studied with a high level of discipline and organization. At the end of the course, all 41 students met the requirements to receive training certificates from the School and the Vietnam Law Newspaper.”

According to Mr. Ha, the trainees also learned specialized content on journalistic genres and practiced writing in various journalistic genres, journalistic photography skills, writing skills for online newspapers, and language skills in journalistic works… to apply to journalistic work.

During a field trip to Thai Nguyen, young reporters from the Vietnam Law Newspaper had a cultural exchange with the Thai Nguyen Provincial Youth Union and learned about clean tea production activities in Tan Cuong (Thai Nguyen). Following the training session, the participants completed several journalistic works.

"The success of the course is thanks to the contributions, guidance, and maximum support from the Editorial Board of Vietnam Law Newspaper and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, who have coordinated and assisted the newspaper in even the smallest matters," Mr. Ha affirmed.

On behalf of the students, Ms. Pham Thi Tuyet Lan expressed her gratitude to the school and the Editorial Board of Vietnam Law Newspaper, as well as the teachers and lecturers who diligently prepared the special lesson plans for this course.

"Through the course, the trainees have gained systematic knowledge about various journalistic genres as well as a new perspective on modern journalistic trends in the current era of the 4.0 technological revolution," Ms. Lan said. "In the future, I hope the Editorial Board of Vietnam Law Newspaper will organize more training courses on journalistic skills."

At the closing ceremony, Dr. Dao Van Hoi (Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Law Newspaper) stated that this was the sweet fruit of the collaboration between Vietnam Law Newspaper and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

According to Dr. Dao Van Hoi, journalism requires constant innovation, and learning is a lifelong process. Through practical lectures from the university's lecturers and experienced journalists, the course participants gained valuable lessons and knowledge for their future work.

Dr. Dao Van Hoi also commended the class's leadership for successfully organizing the training course for officials and reporters, enabling them to refresh their knowledge, supplement their skills, and better examine their journalistic work.

“The message ‘For the socialist rule of law in Vietnam’ is the guiding principle for all activities of the Vietnam Law Newspaper, reflecting where we are and what we are doing. How is the Vietnam Law Newspaper different from other newspapers? The essence of journalism is to provide information in a good and engaging way; therefore, we need to be proficient in professional skills and perform our communication duties well. Hopefully, young staff and reporters will gain more experience to do better journalism, and there will be more training programs to improve journalistic skills,” said Dr. Dao Van Hoi.

Associate Professor Bui Thanh Nam (Head of Training Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities) said: “As someone who frequently reads newspapers to support my teaching, I will choose which news sources and websites to read. To compete, newspapers must constantly innovate, making themselves more attractive and engaging to readers, and this is partly due to the contributions of reporters and journalists. As a reader, I am very pleased that the University has collaborated with the Vietnam Law Newspaper to organize this course to share some of the experience and knowledge in journalism.”

Associate Professor Dr. Nam also expressed his gratitude to the Vietnam Law Newspaper for choosing the University as a training provider for its staff and reporters, offering specific lessons ranging from photography skills to writing and interviewing skills, enabling the lecturers to develop their strengths.
