Friday - December 29, 2017 22:06
On December 26, 2017, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities organized a seminar on "Innovation in teaching and research".

Attending the discussion were comrade Nguyen Thanh Nam (Vice Chairman of VNU Trade Union), Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Party Secretary, Vice Principal of the University), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Principal of the University), comrade Nguyen Van Thuy (Vice Chairman of the University Trade Union), Dr. Tran Thi Dieu (Vice Chairman of the University Trade Union). The discussion was also attended by comrades in the Executive Committee of the University Trade Union, departmental trade unions and a large number of union members and students of the University.

Opinions exchanged at the seminar revolved around issues of innovation in research and teaching; difficulties and challenges in the innovation process; students' needs for innovation in lecturers' teaching methods.

Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan presented a report on “Changes in training regulations and solutions to adapt to teaching and research at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities”. The report analyzed in depth the difficulties and challenges that the University faced when Circular 08 of the Ministry of Education and Training was issued, setting requirements for international research articles for doctoral students. This new requirement raises issues regarding the standards of doctoral students, supervisor standards, standards of the Degree Council and all procedures from input to output must meet standards. Therefore, the difficulty that the University will face in finding sources of doctoral students next year is completely reasonable.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Principal)NThe school presented a report on the challenges and difficulties in innovation in teaching and research.

Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan proposed a few solutions to open up international publication opportunities for lecturers: translating domestic articles and research papers into English and submitting them to prestigious journals; instead of researching and publishing independently, lecturers can gather into teamwork - working in groups and publishing together - so that publishing articles in foreign journals is no longer too burdensome; taking advantage of every opportunity to regularly participate in specialized seminars at home and abroad, teaching training courses, as well as exchanging methods with other colleagues to improve their personal capacity and have the opportunity to be exposed to newer teaching methods...

Dr. Nguyen Van Luot (Chairman of the Psychology Faculty Union) presented a report on the difficulties and challenges in teaching and research from a Psychology perspective. In recent times, the Psychology Faculty has made positive changes in building an active teaching and learning method: students must work and study lectures before coming to class and increase interaction with teachers. In addition, lecturers in the Faculty also try to link theory with practice, creating an environment for students to work in groups and practice skills more than just regular teaching. Regarding scientific research, lecturers in the Faculty have also been proactive in proposing research topics and seeking foreign experts to consult on their topics. However, innovation also faces some difficulties such as: there is no general incentive policy for innovation, so it creates little motivation for lecturers to maintain their new teaching methods; Facilities (technology, internet, etc.) are also not enough to meet the needs of innovation. Therefore, Dr. Nguyen Van Luot hopes that in the coming time, the school's leaders will direct more closely and also have necessary upgrades in facilities to encourage teachers to constantly be creative and innovative in teaching methods.

Student Tran Quoc Long (K60 Management Science) representing the group of full-time students in collaboration with the School's Professional Board presented the results of a survey on the need for innovation in teaching and learning methods from the perspective of the School's students. The survey showed some notable results such as: 74.6% of students said that the teaching methods of teachers have a very important impact on the learning effectiveness of students; 91% of respondents said that current teaching methods need to be innovative and creative so that students can absorb more knowledge in lectures. From there, the School's Professional Board also proposed three methods to help improve the positive effect on students' knowledge acquisition, including: group work, role-playing and practice. All of these methods will help students practice many skills, gain more understanding and especially be more interested in learning.

Concluding the discussion, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Vice Principal of the School) highly appreciated the opinions exchanged at the discussion and further affirmed: in order to innovate, first of all, the School and its units need to clearly identify their current position in order to have appropriate goals and roadmaps for innovation. To do that, the role of leaders is extremely important, as they are the ones who guide and guide other individuals. Therefore, in the coming time, leaders of each unit in particular and all lecturers in general must be aware of their role in bringing the teaching and research work of the School to a new level, more modern and more effective.
