Attending the seminar were Comrade Nguyen Thanh Nam (Vice President of the Trade Union of Vietnam National University, Hanoi), Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Rector of the University), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector of the University), Comrade Nguyen Van Thuy (Vice President of the University's Trade Union), and Dr. Tran Thi Dieu (Vice President of the University's Trade Union). The seminar was also attended by members of the University's Trade Union Executive Committee, departmental trade unions, and a large number of trade union members and students of the University.

The discussions at the seminar revolved around issues of innovation in research and teaching; difficulties and challenges in the innovation process; and students' needs for innovative teaching methods from lecturers.
Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan presented a report on "Changes in training regulations and solutions to adapt teaching and research at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities." The report deeply analyzed the difficulties and challenges the University faced when Circular 08 of the Ministry of Education and Training was issued, requiring international research papers for doctoral students. This new requirement raises issues regarding the standards for doctoral students, supervisors, the degree awarding committee, and all procedures from admission to graduation must meet these standards. Therefore, the University's difficulty in finding doctoral students in the coming year is entirely justified.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector)N(Hanoi University) presented a report on the challenges and difficulties in innovation in teaching and research.
Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan proposed several solutions to open up opportunities for international publication for lecturers: translating domestic articles and research papers into English and submitting them to prestigious journals; instead of researching and publishing independently, lecturers could form teams – working together and publishing jointly – to make publishing articles in foreign journals less burdensome; taking advantage of every opportunity to regularly participate in specialized conferences in and outside the country, teaching training courses, and exchange methods with other colleagues to improve their personal capacity and have the opportunity to be exposed to newer teaching methods…
Dr. Nguyen Van Luot (Chairman of the Psychology Faculty's Trade Union) presented a report on the difficulties and challenges in teaching and research from a psychological perspective. Over the past period, the Psychology Faculty has made positive changes in building an active teaching and learning approach: students are required to work on and research lecture notes before class and interact more with lecturers. In addition, lecturers in the Faculty strive to connect theory with practice, creating an environment for students to work in groups and develop skills beyond just conventional teaching. Regarding scientific research, lecturers in the Faculty have also been proactive in proposing research topics and seeking advice from foreign experts. However, innovation also faces some difficulties such as: the lack of a general policy to encourage innovation, thus creating little motivation for lecturers to maintain their new teaching methods; and insufficient infrastructure (technology, internet, etc.) to meet the needs of innovation. Therefore, Dr. Nguyen Van Luot hopes that in the future, the school's leadership will provide closer guidance and make necessary upgrades to facilities to encourage teachers to continuously innovate and improve their teaching methods.

Student Tran Quoc Long (K60 Management Science), representing the group of full-time students, in collaboration with the Student Union's Professional Committee, presented the results of a survey on the need for innovation in teaching and learning methods from the perspective of the university's students. The survey revealed several noteworthy findings: 74.6% of students believe that the teaching methods of their lecturers significantly impact their learning effectiveness; 91% of those surveyed believe that current teaching methods need innovation and creativity to help students absorb more knowledge from lectures. Based on this, the Student Union's Professional Committee proposed three methods to improve the effectiveness of student learning: group work, role-playing, and practical application. All these methods will help students practice various skills, gain more understanding, and especially become more interested in learning.

Concluding the seminar, Professor Nguyen Van Kim (Vice Rector of the University) highly appreciated the opinions exchanged and further affirmed that, in order to innovate, the first thing the University and its units need to do is clearly define their current position in order to set appropriate goals and a roadmap for innovation. To achieve this, the role of leaders is extremely important, as they are the ones who guide and lead other individuals. Therefore, in the coming time, the leaders of each unit in particular and all lecturers in general must be aware of their role in bringing the University's teaching and research to a new, more modern and effective level.
