Student and faculty exchange and credit recognition between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Renmin University of China.

On December 5, 2023, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU - USSH) held a meeting and working session with representatives from the leadership of Renmin University of China.

Representing the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, were representatives from the Cooperation and Development Department, the Training Department, and the Scientific Research Management Department; and the leaders of the Faculties of Oriental Studies, Linguistics, and Political Science.

Representing Renmin University of China were Professor Wu Fulai, Vice Chairman of the University Council, along with representatives from various faculties and institutes, and representatives from the International Cooperation Office.

Associate Professor Dr. Dao Thanh Truong stated: In 2023, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities worked with and signed MOUs with more than 60 research institutes and universities in China.
During the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Dao Thanh Truong shared information about the university, affirming that: With its position as a pioneering training and research institution in the field of social sciences and humanities, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has been promoting the development of basic science disciplines and expanding into applied science disciplines.
With 28 Bachelor's degree programs, 36 Master's degree programs, and 32 Doctoral degree programs, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-USSH) receives special attention from universities and research institutes in China. In 2023 alone, nearly 200 Chinese students were studying at the university's undergraduate and postgraduate levels (Faculty of Linguistics, Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language, Literature, History, Sociology, International Studies, etc.). Chinese students studying at VNU-USSH are not only assured of high-quality teaching but also receive support with accommodation, healthcare services, and opportunities to experience Vietnamese culture and scenic attractions.
Notably, during the recent cooperation agreement signing ceremony between Vietnam and China, students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities were one of two universities under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, to have the opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with the First Lady of China, Peng Liyuan.

Professor Wu Fulai, Vice President of the University Council of Renmin University of China, stated: "Cooperation between the two universities is essentially a people-to-people exchange between the two countries."
Professor Wu Fulai expressed his gratitude for the goodwill of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and shared: Renmin University of China has a long history, serving as a foundation for the management and research mechanisms of many universities nationwide. With an educational philosophy focused on cultivating national talent, Renmin University of China has consistently ranked among the top universities in China and the world for many years.
With over 5,300 faculty and staff, more than 20,000 students, and 2,000 international students, Renmin University of China has more than 14 departments, many of which have similarities with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, such as the Department of Sociology, the Department of Journalism and Communication, and the Department of Philosophy.
On the occasion of the visit of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping, coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and China, Professor Wu Fulai expressed his desire to renew the cooperation agreement and welcomed students and lecturers from VNU - USSH to work and study at Renmin University of China.
"Collaboration between the two universities in researching practical aspects of society is a direct contribution to the development of both countries – going beyond conventional training cooperation," shared Professor Wu Fulai.

During the meeting, both sides had frank and positive discussions regarding the mutual recognition of credits. In particular, Renmin University of China showed special interest in the care and accommodation of students in both countries and expressed a desire for opportunities for student exchange between the two universities to develop soon.
The leaders of the faculties and institutes of Renmin University of China also shared that lecturers from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will be supported in pursuing suitable specializations at the doctoral and postdoctoral levels. Accordingly, Renmin University of China will send lecturers to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to lecture in fields within the framework of cooperation between the two universities.
The two sides also agreed on several topics for joint research, such as Marxism, the rule of law, and law. In particular, research on economic development models and social management was of particular interest to the faculty leaders, who proposed organizing a large-scale international conference in the near future.

Dr. Phan Van Kien, Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training, expressed his willingness to invite Renmin University of China to participate by submitting papers for the international conference on digital economy in journalism and communication to be held in 2024.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, proposed a student exchange program with the Academy of People-to-People Cultural Exchange, Renmin University of China.
