In 2005, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 60/7, designating January 27th as the annual day of remembrance for the victims, including up to 6 million Jews, murdered by Nazi Germany.
In his opening remarks at the ceremony, Professor Pham Quang Minh, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, emphasized: The resolution of the United Nations General Assembly is of great significance in commemorating the victims of fascism, and also has educational value for future generations. More than any other country in the world, Vietnam has experienced numerous wars that claimed the lives of millions of people.
Emphasizing the significance of this event, Professor Pham Quang Minh stated that, as a leading university in Vietnam in the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities, the faculty and students of the University are honored and proud to host this event, in line with the University's slogan: "Respect the past, embrace the future." The fact that this event is being held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is of particular importance, aiming to remind future generations of the country of the brutality of genocide and therefore the responsibility to ensure that this crime never happens again.
At the commemoration ceremony, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel to Vietnam, Meirav Eilon Shahar, stated: In 2005, the United Nations General Assembly decided to designate January 27th as the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This day was chosen because it commemorates the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi killing camp. As an annual event, the Israeli Embassy in Vietnam, in coordination with the United Nations Office in Vietnam, relevant agencies, and several universities in Vietnam, organizes the Holocaust Remembrance Day.
At the ceremony, Kamal Malhota, Head of the United Nations Office in Vietnam, delivered the United Nations' message on this year's Holocaust Remembrance Day and, together with the delegates attending the ceremony, observed a minute of silence in remembrance of the Jewish victims of the Holocaust.
On this occasion, the Israeli Embassy also screened a short film titled "The Final Victory," to help students better understand the Holocaust tragedy…
