Minister Nguyen Kim Son has been appointed Chairman of the State Council of Professors.

Previously, on April 8, 2021, at its 11th session, the National Assembly passed a resolution electing Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Kim Son - Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Council, and Director of Hanoi National University - to the position of Minister of Education and Training for the 2021-2026 term.

According to Decision No. 37/2018/QD-TTg promulgating regulations on standards and procedures for considering and recognizing the attainment of professorship and appointment to the titles of professor and associate professor; procedures for revoking the recognition of titles and dismissing professors and associate professors, the State Council of Professors.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister has assigned the Minister of Education and Training - Chairman of the State Council of Professors - to decide on the appointment of members of the State Council of Professors and to review and adjust the list of members regularly every year.

The term of office for the State Council of Professors is 5 years. Members of the State Council of Professors may not serve more than two consecutive terms. The Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and members of the Council work on a part-time basis. The Vice-Chairman, who also serves as the General Secretary, works full-time.

This decision takes effect from May 25, 2021; replacing Clause 1, Article 2 of Decision No. 1814/QD-TTg dated December 24, 2018 of the Prime Minister on the establishment of the State Council of Professors for the term 2018-2023.
