Wednesday - November 20, 2024 03:23
Bright smiles, proud eyes, and best wishes were sent to generations of teachers and staff of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, at the Rally to Welcome the Vietnamese Teachers' Day Charter, contributing to further cultivating the tradition of "respecting teachers and valuing education" throughout the past 80 years of history.
The ceremony to welcome Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20th was honored to welcome generations of teachers who were former leaders of the school, former teachers, lecturers, staff, students, and alumni. The school was also honored to welcome and receive congratulatory flowers from leaders of ministries/departments/sectors, domestic and international organizations.
Humanity on the new path
With sincere congratulations and thanks to the generations of teachers who were former leaders of the school, former teachers, lecturers, and staff, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Party Secretary and Principal of the school happily shared: “This year's celebration of Vietnamese Teachers' Day at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was warm with impressive numbers across all areas of the school's work..
That is the school's organizational structure is perfected; the apparatus operates smoothly; the scientific staff has grown strongly in both quantity and quality, with more than 80% having doctoral degrees and more than 20% holding the title of professor and associate professor; the administrative staff is increasingly professional, friendly and effective in public service.
The school's Board of Directors respectfully congratulates and expresses gratitude to generations of teachers and former leaders of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities through the ages.
The school respectfully congratulates Prof. Dr. Phung Huu Phu - former Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, former Chairman of the Hanoi People's Council, the first Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, on being honored as "Outstanding Citizen of the Capital" in 2024.
Enrollment in 2024 has met and exceeded the target in all systems. More importantly, the quality of the enrollment source is very high. The benchmark for 28 majors of the School is among the top in the country, with the total number of students in the school approaching 12,000. Training organization is formalized, training management is centralized and student care is professional.
The training program is a harmony between the old integration and the new construction; up to now, 100% of the training units with all 3 levels from bachelor to doctorate have started to build international training programs according to new trends; promote international internships for students, attract international students to short-term and long-term programs; basically form a culture of quality assurance throughout the school to thereby maintain the reputation - enhance the position of the school domestically and internationally.
Scientific activities continue to flourish in terms of both domestic and international publications, and national and international positions continue to be consolidated. The school's facilities are increasingly spacious and convenient for teaching and research activities; Financial resources grow steadily according to the philosophy of "diversifying revenue sources - streamlining expenditure sources", creating a solid foundation for scientific investment, improving facilities and increasing income for staff.
In 2024, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is honored to have 04 teachers recognized as meeting the standards of professor and associate professor in 02 Interdisciplinary Professorial Councils, including: Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Hung (Interdisciplinary Professorial Council of Philosophy - Political Science - Sociology); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Phuong Anh, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Hoai Giang (Interdisciplinary Professorial Council of Culture - Arts - Sports).
School leaders congratulate 04 teachers recognized by the State Council of Professors as meeting the standards for the title of Professor and Associate Professor in 2024.
However, the school is also facing increasing pressures. The trend of higher education in the country and abroad is changing very quickly and very differently; changes in the philosophy of regulating training programs within VNU, according to which majors in social sciences and humanities are no longer the "exclusive" of the school but have been partially "opened" to other units within VNU as well as private and international universities.
The pressure for university autonomy means financial autonomy in the context of a steady decrease in the budget while the basic salary coefficient increases too quickly while tuition fees are only increased slightly; competition for enrollment along with competition to attract human resources from international and non-public schools...
In the context of rapid changes in domestic and international higher education, a university that does not change or changes slowly will face the risk of falling behind very quickly; a decline in enrollment - training - research leads to the risk of a decrease in scientific reputation leading to loss of social status.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan emphasized:“We are concerned to do, not to retreat, together we strive not to be ashamed of our ancestors, to honor the tradition of Literature - the quintessence of Synthesis and to elevate Humanities in the new journey”.
Over the past decades, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has been proud to have contributed to the country – in addition to the general fields – valuable policy advice and special scientific human resources in Archaeology, Ethnology, Han Nom, Linguistics, Vietnam Studies, etc. In the coming period, Humanities needs to continue to be the leading flag in other unique “specialties”, such as: literature, classical studies, non-common ancient languages closely related to the historical - cultural - ethnic process of Vietnam such as Sanskrit studies, Latin studies, Spanish studies, Portuguese studies, French studies, etc. in addition to traditional Han and Nom studies.
Along with that, modern interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary training and research programs that will contribute to solving the country's hot issues such as international integration, aging society, ethnic and religious conflicts, etc. also need to continue to be opened and promoted.
“Forever a grateful Humanities; Firmly an academic Humanities; Promoting an integrated Humanities; Determined for a strong Humanities; Building a unique and different Humanities”is the message that Principal Hoang Anh Tuan sent to all teachers and staff of the school.
Sending congratulations to all lecturers and staff of the school, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan expressed: "For Humanities to achieve these achievements, each officer and employee of the School needs to make efforts to harmonize between professional development andHeyfoster empathy, demonstrate courage to think, to do, to take responsibility... for the benefit of the industry and the sustainable development of the School".
