Attending the first meeting of the Council of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for the 2023-2028 term, on the side of VNU, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hieu - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Deputy Director of VNU, Dr. Doan Van Cuong - Head of the Organization and Personnel Department.
On the side of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, there were members of the School Council who were approved at the Conference of delegates of civil servants and employees to elect members of the School Council for the 2023 - 2028 term held on December 12, 2023.
The Council of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities performs its duties, powers and operates in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Higher Education No. 08/2012/QH13 dated June 19, 2012, Law No. 34/2018/QH14 amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Higher Education dated November 19, 2018; Decree No. 186/2013/ND-CP dated November 17, 2023 of the Government on National Universities; Decision No. 26/2014/QD-TTg dated March 26, 2014 of the Prime Minister on promulgating the Regulation on Organization and Operation of the National University and its member higher education institutions and current provisions of law.
At the first meeting, the Organizing Committee announced the list of 15 official members of the University Council according to Decision No. 5270/QD-DHQGHN dated December 29, 2023 of the Director of Hanoi National University on the recognition of the University Council of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for the 2023-2028 term. Accordingly, the Council members include: 01 member of VNU; 09 members of the university (including the Party Secretary, Chairman of the Trade Union, leaders of member units, representatives of lecturers, civil servants and employees of the university); 04 members representing alumni or social organizations; 01 member representing the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities chaired the first meeting of the School Council for the 2023 - 2028 term.
Chairing the meeting, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Principal of the school said that the members of the School Council have spent a lot of time working and contributing to the development of the school. The establishment of the School Council with the joint efforts of members inside and outside VNU-USSH, and the close guidance of VNU will create many new opportunities for the development of the school in the coming time.
The delegates voted to elect Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thanh Nam - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Head of Training Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities to hold the position of Vice Chairman of the University Council, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Duc Thuan - Party Committee member, Head of Personnel Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities to hold the position of Secretary of the University Council with 100% of the votes.

Speaking at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hieu - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice President of VNU, member of the Council of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, said that in recent times, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has played a pivotal role in the development of VNU. With a strong team of scientists, valuable policy consulting activities, enrollment activities in recent years exceeding VNU's targets, training programs accredited according to the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training and international standards AUN... the school's results will continue to contribute greatly to the overall achievements of VNU.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hieu affirmed that the spirit of unity and solidarity in the activities of the School Council with the Party Committee and the Board of Directors on the principle of comprehensive leadership of the Party will resonate to increase the values and sustainable development of the school.

Under the direction of the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of VNU, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has implemented and completed 9 steps to realize the policy of establishing the University Council. On December 12, 2023, the Conference of delegates of civil servants and employees elected members of the University Council for the 2023-2028 term with the participation of 250 delegates representing staff and lecturers from the Faculties/Institutes/Departments/Centers of the whole university voted and approved the list of 15 members of the University Council. The list of members of the University Council was recognized atDecision No. 5270/QD-VNU dated December 29, 2023 of the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
The establishment of the University Council is a great success of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU in 2023, gradually implementing the university autonomy model, affirming the University's determination to promote the strengths of a university of basic sciences, focusing resources on building VNU-USSH into a research, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary university with a team of excellent, leading experts; developing a number of new training majors and specialties, pioneering a core role in training and researching basic sciences of the country to reach regional and international levels; ranking in the top 100 universities in Asia and the top 500 universities in the world.
