Attending the first session of the University Council of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities for the term 2023-2028, on behalf of VNU Hanoi were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hieu - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Director of VNU Hanoi, and Dr. Doan Van Cuong - Head of the Personnel and Organization Department.
On the part of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the attendees included members of the University Council who were approved at the Conference of Representatives of Officials and Employees to elect members of the University Council for the 2023-2028 term, held on December 12, 2023.
The Council of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities performs its duties, powers, and activities in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Higher Education No. 08/2012/QH13 dated June 19, 2012; Law No. 34/2018/QH14 amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Higher Education dated November 19, 2018; Government Decree No. 186/2013/ND-CP dated November 17, 2023 on National Universities; Decision No. 26/2014/QD-TTg dated March 26, 2014 of the Prime Minister on promulgating the Regulations on Organization and Operation of the National University and its member higher education institutions; and other current legal regulations.
At the first meeting, the Organizing Committee announced the list of 15 official members of the University Council according to Decision No. 5270/QD-DHQGHN dated December 29, 2023, of the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, on the recognition of the University Council of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for the term 2023-2028. Accordingly, the Council members include: 1 member from Vietnam National University, Hanoi; 9 members from the university (including the Party Committee Secretary, the Trade Union President, leaders of member units, representatives of lecturers, staff and employees of the university); 4 members representing alumni or social organizations; and 1 member representing the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, chaired the first meeting of the University Council for the 2023-2028 term.
Presiding over the meeting, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, the Rector of the university, stated that the members of the University Council have all dedicated significant time and effort to the development of the university. The establishment of the University Council, with the joint efforts of members both within and outside VNU-USSH, and under the close guidance of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, will create many new opportunities for the university's development in the future.
The delegates voted to elect Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Nam - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Head of the Training Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities - as Vice Chairman of the University Council, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Duc Thuan - Member of the Party Committee, Head of the Personnel Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities - as Secretary of the University Council, with a concentrated vote of 100%.

In his remarks at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hieu - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Director of VNU, and member of the University Council of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - stated that, in recent years, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has played a pivotal role in the development of VNU. With a strong team of scientists, valuable policy advisory activities, and enrollment figures consistently exceeding VNU's targets, along with training programs accredited according to the Ministry of Education and Training's standards and the international AUN standards, the university's achievements will continue to make a significant contribution to VNU's overall success.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hieu affirmed that the spirit of unity and solidarity in the activities of the School Council with the Party Committee and the Board of Directors, based on the principle of comprehensive Party leadership, will synergistically enhance the values and sustainable development of the school.

Under the direction of the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has implemented and completed 9 steps to realize the policy of establishing the University Council. On December 12, 2023, the Conference of Representatives of Officials and Employees elected members of the University Council for the 2023-2028 term. With the participation of 250 delegates representing staff and lecturers from all Faculties/Institutes/Departments/Centers of the university, they voted and approved the list of 15 members of the University Council. The establishment of the University Council is a major success for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-USSH in 2023, gradually implementing the model of university autonomy and affirming the University's determination to leverage its strengths as a basic science university, focusing resources on building VNU-USSH into a research-oriented, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary university with a team of excellent, leading experts; developing several new majors and specialized training programs, pioneering and playing a core role in training and research in basic sciences of the country to regional and international standards; and ranking among the top 100 universities in Asia and the top 500 universities in the world.
