VNU-USSH pays tribute to generations of leaders: Belief, aspiration for breakthrough and sustainable development.

Dispelling the chill of winter, the atmosphere at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities in Hanoi became truly warm with tight hugs and friendly handshakes from generations of former faculty and leaders of the university at the reunion and appreciation event held by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2024.
VNU-USSH cherishes the past, embraces the future.
Speaking at the meeting and appreciation event, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, happily shared the outstanding achievements the University attained in 2023 across all fields. He emphasized that 2023 was a successful year for student recruitment, with the University enrolling over 2,000 students across 27 majors, bringing the total number of students to over 11,000 – the largest ever (including nearly 8,000 undergraduates, over 2,000 graduate students and doctoral candidates, and nearly 1,000 international students and graduate students). Despite fierce competition and the difficulties faced by many educational institutions in student recruitment, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities exceeded its enrollment targets in terms of quantity and quality, consistently maintaining and improving the quality of its enrollment. Many of the University's majors achieved some of the highest admission scores nationwide.
The university's staff has grown in number and proudly stands as a leading educational institution nationwide, with nearly 80% holding doctoral degrees and 20% holding professorial or associate professorial titles. The university remains committed to investing in the development of high-quality human resources, attracting 14 doctoral and associate professorial graduates, and plans to attract many more highly qualified staff and lecturers in the future.
Also in 2023, the University adjusted its entire curriculum towards an integrated, streamlined, and efficient approach, meeting the requirements of the labor market and international integration; and simultaneously launched several new programs. To date, most of the university's undergraduate programs have been accredited by the Ministry of Education and Training, many have achieved AUN-QA accreditation, and have been highly evaluated by the accreditation council.
Scientific research, international publications, and development cooperation have also achieved outstanding results, with many successful projects, works, and workshops organized, and many policy recommendations of high scientific and practical value proposed.
Principal Hoang Anh Tuan emphasized the philosophy of openness and integration, built on an academic foundation, which has been steadfastly upheld throughout the school's development over the years. The school's prestige and reputation are steadily improving.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, emphasized the philosophy of liberal arts and integration based on academic principles, which has been steadfastly upheld throughout the university's development over the years.
Reporting at the meeting, Associate Professor Lai Quoc Khanh, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, stated that in 2024, the university is determined to improve its facilities, aiming for a humanistic image of Hanoi that both preserves tradition and embraces innovation and modernity. Specifically, the university is renovating building A to create a space for displaying and promoting its training and admissions programs, fostering a visual identity that continues the tradition from the University of Hanoi to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. It is also building new cultural spaces in building H and the campus grounds. In the near future, the university plans to construct a new building to serve international training, catering to the learning and accommodation needs of international experts and students, and creating self-study spaces for students. The renovations and new constructions aim to create distinctive cultural spaces for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, and provide convenient facilities to offer faculty, staff, and students the best possible experience while working and studying at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi.
 
VNU-USSH is increasingly realizing the dreams of many generations of teachers and students for a spacious, modern, and humane learning and working environment.
Deeply moved by the sentiments of generations of educators, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan shared that the presence of former leaders from various generations of educators is a great encouragement and motivation for the school on its path of development. The school's principal expressed his hope that generations of educators will continue to support, accompany, and always be a pillar of support for successive generations of staff and lecturers to carry on the tradition, build, and develop the school.
The achievements that the university has attained over the past years are built upon the foundation of the 80-year tradition of the Faculty of Literature and the 30-year tradition of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, including the significant contributions of generations of university leaders; and the outstanding efforts of staff, lecturers, students, and trainees. The intellect, health, love for science, and dedication of the teachers to the cause of education are invaluable assets and a solid foundation for current generations of staff to preserve, develop, and elevate the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to new heights.

Professor Phung Huu Phu, the first Rector (1995-1999) and Chairman of the Scientific and Training Council of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, expressed his joy: “There is no greater joy than seeing the humanities campus becoming warmer and more spacious.” Professor Phung Huu Phu shared that in recent years, especially in 2023, the social sciences and humanities disciplines have faced significant challenges. In this context, with the unity and determination of the university's leadership, VNU-USSH has made steady progress in recent years.
Professor, Doctor, Meritorious Teacher Phung Huu Phu - the first Rector (1995-1999), Chairman of the Scientific and Training Council of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, expressed his joy at the remarkable development of the university in recent years.
Building upon the nearly 30-year tradition of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the university's leadership has boldly embraced innovation, combining traditional values ​​with internationalization, leading to visible development in all aspects, with clear qualitative figures regarding student recruitment, scientific research, international publications, improved staff and faculty income, and infrastructure improvements. This represents a tremendous effort by the university's leadership to realize the dreams of many generations of leaders, staff, faculty, and students for a spacious, modern, and humane working environment.
Former leaders shared their emotions as the school not only developed comprehensively but also gradually strengthened its humanistic traditions. Professor Phung Huu Phu reminded them: “The world may change, technology may constantly develop, but humanism is immutable. The more modern we become, the more humanistic, united, democratic, and truly respectful of human beings we must be. Hanoi's humanistic school is becoming warmer and warmer, and increasingly brings both teachers and students the feeling of coming home, of returning to a warm and loving home.”
Sharing in the joy of the school's outstanding achievements over the past year, Professor Phung Huu Phu, on behalf of the former leaders, shared: "Entering 2024, we hope and believe that, with unity and consensus, our school will make remarkable progress and continue to develop sustainably."
A new spring has arrived at VNU-USSH, bringing with it pride and profound belief that in 2024, the university will take stronger, more comprehensive, and more humane steps forward, towards celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Faculty of Literature and the 30th anniversary of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities!
