Summary of the thesis results

This thesis is a research study on the evolution of Vietnamese short stories from 1986 to the present, viewed from the perspective of genre form. The thesis provides an overview of the development of Vietnamese short stories over the past 20 years following the Doi Moi (Renovation) period. Specific aspects studied include: plot and structure, character development, and narrative techniques. Furthermore, to highlight the evolution of Vietnamese short stories from 1986 to the present, the thesis also conducts a comparative survey with previous short story periods such as 1932–1945, 1945–1975, etc.

Through the evolution of Vietnamese short stories from 1986 to the present, this thesis contributes to affirming the role of the short story genre in contemporary prose, while also revealing some typical characteristics of the conception of reality and the innovations of prose during this period.
