11. Summary of thesis results:
The research topic of the thesis is Vietnamese Buddhism in the 10th - 14th centuries in relation to Southeast Asian mainland Buddhism from a geopolitical reference system. Therefore, in this research, we focus on studying the outstanding characteristics of Buddhism in this period as a representative national religion in the Southeast Asian mainland region, in order to have a connection with contemporary Vietnamese Buddhism. From a geopolitical perspective, Vietnamese Buddhism is similar but also different in the overall picture of regional Buddhism. From here, we can partly find answers to the geopolitical curtain of regional Buddhism in the medieval period.
The Southeast Asian geographical area during this period was a turbulent historical period with the transfer of supreme state power between ethnic groups. However, in that general situation, Vietnam was different as a country where there were no territorial and power disputes on the ethnic or religious front. Although there were many resistance wars, all of them were against foreign invaders and the domination of other countries. In stable political conditions, Buddhism easily penetrated people's lives with indispensable roles and positions in the spiritual and mental world of the Vietnamese people. Buddhism in Vietnam, although very developed and reached its peak in the 10th - 14th centuries, was only like a shining star in the political sky of Vietnam at that time. Since the 14th century, Buddhism was no longer treated as a state religion, but only as a popular religion in people's lives, and later, due to its own political reasons, it was mentioned as a religion with much sympathy in Vietnam.
Although the existence of this religion can be wrapped in different concepts and connotations depending on each period of political history, the universal value and popularity of Buddhism in Vietnamese life and society are still irreplaceable. It is difficult to use a quantitative measure of the number of followers to affirm whether this religion is large or small, developing or not in this Southeast Asian peninsula country. Because this religion is like life, silently existing invisible values that make up the completeness of Vietnamese culture in linear time.
