Summary of the results of the thesis: Through studying and researching the phenomenon of Vietnamese women marrying Taiwanese men, I have built my thesis topic including three main contents: Causes of Vietnamese women marrying Taiwanese men; Current situation of Vietnamese women marrying Taiwanese men and Directions to overcome the shortcomings in Vietnamese - Taiwanese marriages. The economic, cultural and labor cooperation relations between Taiwan and Vietnam have been constantly strengthened, making travel and communication between the two sides more convenient and simpler. Vietnamese women and Taiwanese men have therefore had the opportunity to meet, learn about each other and get married. In addition, the economic and spiritual lives of these brides and grooms are poor. Most Vietnamese brides have relatively difficult family circumstances. They consider marriages with Taiwanese men to be "rosy" marriages, marriages that will change their lives and that both themselves and their families will be happy. Lack of understanding also makes these girls unable to fully realize the difficulties they will encounter when becoming a bride in a foreign land, with completely different languages, cultures and customs. Meanwhile, Taiwanese men who come to Vietnam to find wives are mostly those who cannot find a wife in their country because their education level or income is relatively low. Therefore, they come to Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, as a lifeline, to find a wife to their liking while spending the least amount of money. Thus, marriages between Vietnamese women and Taiwanese men are the meeting of two needs and two searches. Most of the girls who marry Taiwanese men are very young (mainly 18 to 21 years old) and have low education levels, mainly concentrated in areas where economic conditions are still relatively difficult. Taiwanese grooms are mostly 30 years old or older, and mainly have a high school education. Vietnamese girls when marrying in a foreign land also encounter many difficulties, the first of which are language barriers, social prejudices, difficulties in naturalization as well as becoming victims of violence and serious sexual abuse. Besides the happy marriages that are considered bright spots in the picture, many unhappy marriages have left extremely heavy and serious consequences. First of all, there is the problem of Taiwanese mixed-race children, the phenomenon of gender imbalance in Taiwan as well as the evil of human trafficking that can also be hidden under the shadow of marriage. And to overcome the shortcomings in Vietnamese-Taiwanese marriages, both Vietnam and Taiwan must coordinate with each other to come up with the most appropriate measures to support Vietnamese brides when marrying in a foreign land, at the same time preventing marriages that do not originate from love and do not move towards the goal of building a happy family. But the most important solution is still how to improve the quality of women's material and spiritual life so that they can have a more correct and realistic view of marriages with foreigners, or have more complete preparation when deciding to marry a foreigner. The phenomenon of Vietnamese women marrying Taiwanese men is no longer a hot topic, but there is still a need for research and appropriate measures to improve the quality of marriages with Taiwanese men in particular and foreigners in general, bringing these marriages back to the true meaning they should have. 11. Phung Thi Hue – The Institute of Chinese Studies (Full name, academic title and degree) 11. Summary of the findings of the thesis: (Summarize them with stress on the new findings, if any) Through my study and research on the phenomenon that Vietnamese women get married with Taiwanese men, I build my thesis in three parts of content: The reason why Vietnamese women get married with Taiwanese men, the reality and the solutions to problems in Vietnam – Taiwanese marriage. That the Vietnam - Taiwan economic, cultural and labor cooperation have continuously grown makes the transportation and exchanges between the two countries more simple and convenient. Vietnamese women and Taiwanese men, so, have more chances to contact, find out about each other and get married. Besides, poverty in material and mental life of both grooms and brides is one reason. Most of Vietnamese brides have poor families; so they see their marriages with Taiwanese men as “pink ones” which will completely change the life of themselves and their family, giving them a happier life. The less awareness as well prevents them from realizing the difficulties of living overseas with completely different language, culture and custom. Meanwhile, Taiwanese men who come to Vietnam to find wives can't get married in Taiwan due to low academic standard and income. So, they see South East Asian countries including Vietnam as a good solution to have a pleased wife at the lowest cost. Then, Vietnam-Taiwan marriage is a meeting of mutual demand and seeking. Most of these Vietnamese girls are very young (mostly from 18 to 21 years old), have low academic standards and are in economically disadvantaged areas. Taiwanese grooms are mostly over 30 years old and at common education level. When getting married overseas, Vietnamese girls get many difficulties the first things of which are language barriers, social preconceptions, obstacles in naturalization as well as becoming victims of violence and serious sexual violations. Besides happy endings like bright points in the whole picture, there are many unhappy marriages which cause a lot of serious and hard consequences. Firstly, it's the matter of Taiwan when it results in sex imbalance as well as women traffic under the form of marriages. Then, to overcome the inadequacies in Viet-Tai marriages, both of Vietnam and Taiwan must co-ordinate to give the most suitable solutions in order to support Vietnamese brides in Taiwan as well prevented marriages which are not the result of love or do not aim to build a happy family. However, the most important thing is how to enhance women's quality of material and mental life in order that they will have more sensible and practical view on marriages with foreigners or have more preparations for such oversea marriages. That Vietnamese women get married to Taiwanese is not a hot topical issue at present. Howerver, it's necessary to have further researches and right solutions to enhance the quality of marriages with Taiwanese as well as with foreigners in general, turning them into the right meaning it should have. 12.
