Summary of the thesis results (summarize the results of the thesis, emphasizing new results, if any) Besides the introduction and conclusion, the thesis content includes three main chapters: - Chapter 1: Theoretical basis for language proficiency classification: + Presents the theoretical basis for classifying language proficiency in general and for Vietnamese in particular. This clarifies some concepts affecting language proficiency classification such as: language communication, language competence, second language acquisition, language skills, approaches… + Mentions some characteristics of Vietnamese that need attention when classifying Vietnamese for foreigners. + Presents the world's conceptions of language proficiency classification and the domestic conceptions of Vietnamese proficiency classification. - Chapter 2: Through surveying several typical Vietnamese language textbooks for foreigners, we have identified the proficiency levels, grammatical systems, vocabulary, reading materials, etc., of these textbooks and provided specific observations on the quantity, development, and complexity of these aspects, as well as the shortcomings in determining proficiency levels in these textbooks. - Chapter 3: Based on the theoretical foundation in Chapter 1 and related concepts, we have proposed a system for classifying overall language proficiency levels and the classification of Vietnamese language proficiency according to the four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This reflects the increasing requirements for language proficiency and understanding of Vietnamese culture and society. 12. Practical Applications: In practical terms, the Vietnamese language proficiency classification system we propose can be applied to the compilation of Vietnamese language textbooks for foreigners, to the design of teaching programs and exercises, tests, and assessments of students' Vietnamese language proficiency. Simultaneously, learners can also use it to self-assess their language level. 13. Further Research Directions: Expand research on the Vietnamese language proficiency classification system according to different purposes, for example: for teachers and those involved in testing and assessment; for student self-assessment. Or propose Vietnamese language proficiency classification systems according to specialized fields… 14. Summary of the findings of the thesis: In addition to the introduction and conclusion, the thesis consists of three main chapters: - Chapter 1: The literature review is presented to demarcate a certain language level in general and Vietnamese language in particular. structured, it specifies some concepts that affect the division of language levels such as: language communication, language competence, acquisition, language skills, the approaches and so forth. - A number of Vietnamese language characteristics are mentioned to be considered when conducting delimitation of Vietnamese language for foreigners. It gives out the international concepts on delimitation of the language levels and local concepts on the allocation of Vietnamese language level. - Chapter II: Through a survey on some typical Vietnamese language teaching course books for foreigners, the course books' levels, the grammatical systems, vocabularies, lessons and so on are determined and released some specific comments on quantity, development of complexity level of the above aspects as well as inadequacies in determining the level of these course books. - Chapter III: Based on the literature review in Chapter 1 with the relevant concepts, we recommend an overall level division system for one language and the delimitation of Vietnamese language according to 4 skills namely listening, speaking, reading and writing. Therewith, it presents requirements on gradually increasing for language proficiency and knowledge on Vietnamese culture and society. 12. Practical applicability: Practically, the recommended Vietnamese language level division system can be applied in designing Vietnamese language textbooks for foreigners, teaching curriculum as well as exercises, tests and evaluations on Vietnamese language levels of learners.
