10. Summary of the thesis results:
Currently, depression has become a major challenge in global society, affecting millions of people worldwide. This is a consequence of the interplay of childhood traumas and the pressures of the present reality: work stress, epidemics, natural disasters, and the unpredictable changes in society (the VUCA era). It has created new challenges in mental health care and depression management. The application of multifaceted psychotherapy approaches is crucial to supporting those struggling with depression, helping them recover mentally and regain the strength to face life's challenges.
Psychological therapy for people with depression is quite positive and important in improving the quality of life and mental well-being of those suffering from depression. In particular, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and its combination with other methods not only helps reduce depressive symptoms but also focuses on developing self-management skills, changing negative thinking, and building positive social relationships.
The research results show that: Clients with traumatic childhood experiences in the study exhibited psychological disorders, distorted self-beliefs, and the effects of childhood trauma significantly impacted their current lives. Through therapy, depressed individuals can learn to view themselves more positively, better understand the root causes of their mood, and develop coping and problem-solving skills, restructuring their self-perception to feel happier.
The diversity of psychotherapy approaches also provides opportunities to customize treatment to the unique needs and characteristics of each individual, thereby creating positive and lasting results in overcoming depression.
11. Practical applications:
Based on the results obtained through theoretical and practical research in clinical cases, this thesis has contributed to providing further evidence on increasing the effectiveness of psychological therapy by combining cognitive-behavioral therapy with other therapies such as Mindfulness-Based Therapy (MBCT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).In restructuring perceptions, addressing misconceptions, gaining a more accurate self-image, understanding root causes, and developing coping and problem-solving skills, clients can achieve greater and more sustainable happiness. This is especially important in the context of Vietnam, a country that has experienced numerous wars and has suffered significant childhood trauma across generations. Instead of avoiding the issue, we should focus on empowering clients to overcome adversity and conquer their problems.
