Summary of the results of the thesis: In the thesis Phan Manh Danh's works in the context of modernizing Vietnamese literature, in addition to the Introduction and Conclusion, we aim to clarify three issues. Firstly, we create a portrait of Phan Manh Danh as a literary author worthy of research. In this part, we have divided the author's life into three milestones, corresponding to each stage, we review the basic events and works in his literary journey. Secondly, we conduct a detailed and comprehensive survey of his works in chronological order, dividing the stages of movement and development of Vietnamese literature from the end of the 19th century until the author's death (in 1942), thereby identifying and evaluating the value of the typical works that make up the portrait of a literary author. Third, based on the studies in the previous sections, based on the criteria of author typology, we proceed to identify the Confucian author type for Phan Manh Danh. With his Confucian origin, with his "talent" and "amorous" traits in both life and literature, he deserves to be a talented Confucian. Living in the context of literary modernization, Phan Manh Danh has skillfully resisted modernization through a series of his creative, translation, and compilation activities. However, resistance does not mean that he has not contributed anything to the country's literature. On the contrary, he has become one of the few authors who have contributed to the preservation, conservation, and revival of the country's literary and cultural quintessence. 11. Summary of the findings of the thesis: In the thesis titled Phan Manh Danh's works in the context of modernization of Vietnamese literature, besides Introduction and Conclusion, we would like to clarify three viewpoints. First of all, we have portrayed Phan Manh Danh as an author worth for studying. In this part, we divided into three stages of his life; corresponding to each stage, we mentioned events and basic works among his literature activities. Second, we conducted a detailed and comprehensive survey on his works system based on the timeline of operation and development of Vietnamese literature from late the nineteenth century to his death (1942), then evaluated the value of typical works which made a portrait of a literature author. Third, based on previous studies and criteria of authors, we evaluate Phan Manh Danh as a confician scholar. Originated from a confician scholar with “presumed ability” and “sentimental” nature in both literature and life, he deserves the title of a dilettante confician scholar. In the context of modernization of literature, he has cleverly resisted by all writing, interpreting and compiling activities. However, resistance does not mean that he had no contribution to national literature at all.
