Also attending the meeting were Dr. Monica Sharma, Director of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center in Hanoi, and leaders and lecturers from the History and Oriental Studies Departments of the University.
The meeting focused on prospects for cooperation with a spirit of mutual development. The Indian Embassy committed to strengthening support for training and scientific research activities of faculty and students at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. VNU-USSH committed to supporting Indian researchers and students to come to the University for exchange programs and research.
At the end of the working session, the two sides agreed on the following five specific areas of cooperation:
Firstly, the Indian Embassy supported two young experts from VNU-USSH to pursue postgraduate studies in Pali and Sanskrit in India, with the goal of training experts in these important languages for translation, annotation, and research on the history of Champa and Funan in central and southern Vietnam.
Officials from the Indian Embassy regularly visit, work with, and introduce scholarship opportunities to students of the university in general, and those majoring in Oriental Studies in particular.
Secondly, the Indian Embassy will arrange for an Indian professor to come and teach for at least one year at VNU-USSH in the fields of Indian history, civilization, and ancient languages.
Thirdly, both sides support Indian students to undertake internships and earn credits at VNU-USSH, as well as VNU-USSH students to undertake internships at Indian universities. This is a practical activity aimed at promoting academic exchange between lecturers and students from both sides.
Fourth, the two sides will jointly organize a workshop on the Champa kingdom in central Vietnam in history. This activity is the first step in laying the foundation for the development of an Information Center for the My Son historical site complex.
Fifth, at an appropriate time in the near future, Ambassador Sandeep Arya will visit VNU-USSH and give a lecture to faculty and students majoring in Indian Studies. This will be a great encouragement for the staff and students of the department.
Students majoring in Oriental Studies (Indian Studies specialization) performed Indian dances during the visit of the Deputy Ambassador SPGupta to the school and his speech to the students.
The Ambassador expressed his hope that concrete cooperation between the two sides in the coming period will contribute to promoting and further deepening diplomatic activities between Vietnam and India in the early years of the second 50th anniversary, while also continuing the tradition of cultural exchange that began more than two thousand years ago.
