The Future of AI and Vietnam: Sharing from the President of Global External Affairs of Meta Group at VNU

Mr. Nick Clegg - President of Global External Relations of Meta Group visited VNU and interacted and shared with students about the topic of The future of AI and Vietnam at 19 Le Thanh Tong, Hanoi on the afternoon of September 30, 2024, in which he especially emphasized the strategic role of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-USSSH) in promoting digital capacity for students.
The sharing session was attended by Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), Professor, Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hoang Linh - Rector of the University of Natural Sciences and more than 100 teachers and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Natural Sciences.
Deputy Director Dao Thanh Truong emphasized that the discussions during the meeting and exchange between Mr. Nick Clegg and General Secretary and President To Lam during the General Secretary's recent visit to the United States on technology, digital transformation and Vietnam's development in the digital age are truly strategic. This clearly demonstrates Meta's commitment to accompanying Vietnam on the path of international integration, promoting digital technology initiatives. Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong also expressed his appreciation for Mr. Nick Clegg's love for VNU and the young generation of Vietnam by spending precious time to interact and share with VNU students.
Deputy Director Dao Thanh Truong expressed: “VNU would like to express special thanks to the Meta Group in general and Mr. Ruici Tio, Policy Program Manager for Asia-Pacific, and the Meta team in Vietnam, for their valuable cooperation in the Project on Enhancing Digital Capacity for Students, which has been initially successfully implemented at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. This is an important step forward, creating a solid foundation for the younger generations of Vietnam to access global technology and knowledge.”. Vice President Dao Thanh Truong hopes that Meta Group will continue to create conditions to expand this project, not only within VNU but also to other educational institutions across the country.
The Deputy Director also shared his hope that Meta will jointly promote a number of projects on park construction and the establishment of a Technology Incubator in the urban space of VNU in Hoa Lac, in order to improve the quality of student life, promote scientific and technological potential as well as contribute to promoting the image of the group.

This is the first time Mr. Nick Clegg - President of Global External Relations of Meta Group has come to Vietnam since officially taking on this responsibility. The President wishes to share with VNU students about the development trends of science and technology, especially artificial intelligence globally; the vision of a world-leading technology company like Meta; as well as what the younger generation can and needs to do to catch up with the opportunities brought by science and technology. Meta leaders hope that the visit to VNU and the exchange with students will create a premise for extensive cooperation activities between the two sides for the future of generations of Vietnamese digital citizens.
Sir Nick Clegg emphasized: Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been a fundamental component of Meta's technology for many years and we believe that open and responsible AI is the key to activating the spirit of innovation and contributing to economic growth. Therefore, we have worked closely with VNU to develop training programs and extracurricular programs to improve digital skills for students. This cooperation initiative has achieved many successes and Meta is ready to continue to develop credit-granting courses on improving AI knowledge. This course will equip Vietnamese students with the skills and knowledge to shape the future by leveraging AI technology.

Many questions were discussed by students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Natural Sciences with Mr. Nick Clegg at the exchange session. The President of Global External Relations of Meta Group gave students advice on how to succeed in the field of information and communication technology, applying AI in learning and scientific research. He said that young people need to adapt quickly to the rapid changes in technology taking place in the world, and the development of Generative AI (GenAI) will be an opportunity for young people to develop themselves. "Always keep an open mind, enthusiasm, and a spirit of readiness to learn" is the advice that Mr. Nick Clegg sent to students of VNU in particular and young people in general.
Visiting the exhibition area of ​​the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU at the reception, Mr. Nick Clegg shared: “Meta is honored to cooperate with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, in the Project to enhance AI application capacity for lecturers and students. I highly appreciate the results of the first phase of the project with thousands of students being trained in digital capacity. In the next project, Meta continues to accompany students to access the most advanced AI technology, helping them develop the necessary skills to participate in the global workforce in the digital age.
Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities emphasized that Meta has played a very important role in supporting the University in improving digital capacity and artificial intelligence capacity for students and lecturers in recent years."We are committed to focusing all resources to successfully implement phase 2 of the project, thereby creating sustainable values ​​for the development of the School and for higher education in Vietnam." - Principal Hoang Anh Tuan expressed.

On this occasion, Mr. Nick Clegg visited the 19 Le Thanh Tong Building of Hanoi National University - a building with the "Indochinese Architecture" style combining European scholastic architecture, a highlight of architectural art in Hanoi and openly took souvenir photos with leaders, lecturers and students of VNU.
Previously, Meta Group has had an effective cooperative relationship with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in many projects, especially the Project to improve the capacity of AI application for lecturers and students to improve the quality of teaching, learning and life of lecturers and students. The project is implemented with 3 main objectives: (1) Help lecturers and students gain a deep understanding of the role and impact of AI in social life and in higher education; (2) Equip lecturers and students with knowledge and skills to evaluate, select and use AI tools suitable for their needs; help students use AI in accordance with ethics, law and critical thinking; (3) Build a toolkit of competency frameworks, assessment tools and learning materials to serve the development of digital capacity for lecturers and students inside and outside VNU.
