The Future of AI and Vietnam: Sharing by the Chairman of Global External Relations of Meta Group at Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Mr. Nick Clegg, President of Global External Relations at Meta Group, visited Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) and interacted with students on the topic of "The Future of AI and Vietnam" at 19 Le Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi on the afternoon of September 30, 2024. He particularly emphasized the strategic role of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-USSSH) in promoting digital skills for students.
The sharing session was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Linh - Rector of the University of Natural Sciences, along with more than 100 lecturers and students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Natural Sciences.
Associate Professor Dao Thanh Truong emphasized that the discussions during Mr. Nick Clegg's meeting and exchange with General Secretary and President To Lam during the General Secretary's recent visit to the United States regarding technology, digital transformation, and Vietnam's development in the digital age were truly strategic in nature. This clearly demonstrates Meta's commitment to accompanying Vietnam on its path of international integration and promoting digital technology initiatives. Associate Professor Dao Thanh Truong also expressed his appreciation for Mr. Nick Clegg's affection for Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) and the young generation of Vietnam, and for dedicating his valuable time to interact and share with VNU students.
Deputy Director Dao Thanh Truong expressed:Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) would like to express its sincere gratitude to Meta Group in general, and to Mr. Ruici Tio, Regional Policy Program Manager for Asia-Pacific, and the entire Meta team in Vietnam, for their valuable cooperation in the Digital Capacity Building Project for Students, which has been successfully implemented at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. This is an important step, creating a solid foundation for young Vietnamese generations to access global technology and knowledge."Deputy Director Dao Thanh Truong hopes that Meta Group will continue to create favorable conditions for expanding this project, not only within the Vietnam National University, Hanoi but also to other educational institutions nationwide."
The Deputy Director also shared his hope that Meta would collaborate on several projects related to park construction and the establishment of a Technology Incubator within the VNU urban area in Hoa Lac, aiming to improve the quality of student life, promote scientific and technological potential, and contribute to promoting the group's image.

This is the first time Mr. Nick Clegg, President of Global External Affairs at Meta Group, has visited Vietnam since officially assuming this role. The President wishes to share with VNU students the global trends in science and technology, especially artificial intelligence; the vision of a leading global technology company like Meta; and what the younger generation can and should do to seize the opportunities offered by science and technology. Meta's leadership hopes that this visit to VNU and the exchange with students will lay the groundwork for extensive cooperation between the two sides for the future of Vietnam's digital citizens.
Mr. Nick Clegg emphasized: Artificial intelligence (AI) has been a fundamental component of Meta's technology for many years, and we believe that open and responsible AI is key to activating innovation and contributing to economic growth. Therefore, we have collaborated closely with Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) to develop training programs and extracurricular activities to enhance students' digital skills. This collaborative initiative has been very successful, and Meta is ready to continue developing credit-based courses to enhance AI knowledge. This course will equip Vietnamese students with the skills and knowledge to shape their future by leveraging AI technology.

Many questions were exchanged between students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Natural Sciences with Mr. Nick Clegg at the exchange session. The Chairman of Global External Relations of Meta Group offered the students advice on how to succeed in the field of information and communication technology, and the application of AI in learning and scientific research. He stated that young people need to adapt quickly to the rapid technological changes taking place in the world, and the development of generative AI (GenAI) will be an opportunity for young people to develop themselves. "Always maintain an open mind, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn" was the advice Mr. Nick Clegg gave to the students of Vietnam National University, Hanoi in particular and young people in general.
During a visit to the exhibition area of ​​the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, at the reception, Mr. Nick Clegg shared:Meta is honored to collaborate with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, on the project to enhance AI application capabilities for faculty and students. I highly appreciate the results of phase 1 of the project, with thousands of students receiving digital skills training. In the next phase, Meta will continue to support students in accessing the most advanced AI technologies, helping them develop the necessary skills to participate in the global workforce in the digital age.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, emphasized that Meta has played a very important role in supporting the University in enhancing the digital and artificial intelligence capabilities of students and lecturers over the years."We are committed to focusing all our resources on successfully implementing phase 2 of the project, thereby creating sustainable value for the development of the University and for higher education in Vietnam."" - Principal Hoang Anh Tuan expressed.

On this occasion, Mr. Nick Clegg visited the 19 Le Thanh Tong building of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi - a building in the "Indochinese architectural style" combining European academic architecture, a highlight of architectural art in Hanoi - and happily posed for commemorative photos with the leaders, lecturers, and students of VNU.
Previously, Meta Group had an effective collaborative relationship with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in many projects, especially the Project to enhance AI application capacity for faculty and students to improve the quality of teaching, learning and life of faculty and students. The project was implemented with 3 main objectives: (1) To help faculty and students gain a deep understanding of the role and impact of AI in social life and in higher education; (2) To equip faculty and students with knowledge and skills to evaluate, select and use AI tools suitable to their needs; to help students use AI in accordance with ethics, law and critical thinking; (3) To build a set of tools on competency framework, assessment tools and learning materials to serve the development of digital competencies for faculty and students inside and outside VNU.
