Dear comrades!
Today's seminar once again reaffirms the immense role of education in character building and human development. President Ho Chi Minh expressed important ideas about human values. This reflects a very humane view of people:"Goodness and wickedness are not inherent traits. They are largely shaped by education."
He also clearly and comprehensively affirmed the core and universal goals of education, which are to"Raising the intellectual level of the people," "Learning to work, to be a good person, to be a good cadre. Learning to serve the organization, the class and the people, the Fatherland and humanity," "Learning to correct one's thinking," "Learning to cultivate revolutionary ethics," "Learning to believe," "Learning to act."These important ideas about education are forward-thinking and enduring. Ho Chi Minh believed that education should not only equip people with knowledge, but also focus on cultivating morality, character, emotions, and lifestyle, aiming to create individuals who are both talented and virtuous, with virtue as the foundation. Education aims to develop individuals comprehensively, encompassing morality, intellect, physical health, and aesthetics, possessing all the qualities of humanity, propriety, righteousness, wisdom, trustworthiness, courage, integrity, and uprightness.
President Ho Chi Minh emphasized that the guiding principle of education is"Theory goes hand in hand with practice," "Learning goes hand in hand with doing," "Learning to do better and better," "School education combines with family education and social education."Ideological education encompasses"an education that fully develops the inherent abilities of children."These are all great ideas about the holistic development of human beings, laying the foundation for us to build a modern, democratic, creative, and progressive education system that places human beings as the subject, center, and purpose.
President Ho Chi Minh's educational philosophy both inherited and refined the essence of the nation's traditional cultural and educational values, while also incorporating advanced educational ideas from around the world. He emphasized the role of self-study, continuous learning, lifelong learning, learning anytime, anywhere, and learning from everyone as a means of human development, enabling individuals to adapt and meet the demands of work and the times.
From the beginning of the seminar, the keywords we mentioned most often were self-study and lifelong learning. However, President Ho Chi Minh's view on self-study did not only emphasize acquiring knowledge, skills, learning multiple foreign languages, and accessing the endless knowledge available, but a very important aspect of self-study for President Ho Chi Minh was the development of the individual and character. This aspect of self-study must be viewed in the sense of self-education, meaning self-development, self-cultivation, self-regulation, self-reflection, self-humiliation, knowing shame, and maintaining integrity, so that the individual must change to meet the demands of the revolution of the era. That is the self-development of one's own self. This self-study is the depth and uniqueness of continuous, lifelong learning. The perfection of human character is also limitless, which is profoundly reflected in President Ho Chi Minh's educational thought. Ho Chi Minh emphasized human development, so that people would always adapt and meet the evolving demands of their work and the times.
Speaker"Regarding learning, self-study is key," "self-study must be improved and guided," "learning is something that must continue throughout life."Regarding the role of education in the development of the country, President Ho Chi Minh emphasized:"An ignorant nation is a weak nation."And He paid special attention to education:We have the urgent task of re-educating our people. We must make our nation a courageous, patriotic, and hardworking nation, a nation worthy of an independent Vietnam.
We need to discuss more about the educational content that President Ho Chi Minh proposed. In this educational content, President Ho Chi Minh placed people at the center, putting the nation first and considering it within a century-long and global vision. In this educational content, President Ho Chi Minh not only emphasized the intellectual level of the people, but also the national spirit and morale. Considering the context of the era before 1945, Phan Boi Chau called for the need to revitalize the people's intellect, raise their level of knowledge, and cultivate their national spirit, arguing that only in this way could a new Vietnam be created. Therefore, it's not just about understanding the people's intellect, but especially important is the national spirit. Thus, President Ho Chi Minh's educational content particularly emphasized encouraging the will of each individual and the will of the entire nation.
Therefore, in Ho Chi Minh's letter to students on the first day of school in the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, his letter to teachers, students, youth cadres and children in 1955, and several other letters, Ho Chi Minh made declarations about education, entrusted and assigned a mission to learners, and aroused great inspiration and willpower in young Vietnamese people so that successive generations of Vietnamese people would rise up to liberate the country and steadfastly work together to build the nation.
The person giving the reminder said:After 80 years of enslavement that weakened our nation, today we need to rebuild the legacy our ancestors left us, so that we can catch up with other nations around the world. In this reconstruction effort, the nation places great hope and expectation in you. Whether Vietnam's land will become beautiful and prosperous, and whether the Vietnamese people will reach the pinnacle of glory to stand alongside the world's leading powers, depends largely on your academic achievements.”The aspirations of a nation can only be realized starting with education, through education. The development of a nation begins with the development of each and every member of that nation, and naturally, these members must learn and improve throughout their lives.
Dear comrades!
Over the years, the Party and State of Vietnam have always given profound attention to and highly valued the role of education, thus the education sector has achieved many great accomplishments. This vividly demonstrates the inheritance and development of Ho Chi Minh's educational thought. Party committees, governments, and the entire education sector have deeply embraced his thoughts, principles, and educational guidelines, gradually concretizing the integration of Ho Chi Minh's thought into the content and curriculum of teaching, examinations, assessments, political education, revolutionary ideals, ethics, lifestyle, life skills, and physical education for students; and the coordination between schools, families, and society in educating students. The study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's thought, ethics, and style have not only permeated every professional activity, every lecture, and every program for developing skills and character in schools, but are also reflected in the strategic thinking and strategic orientation of the entire education sector. National education has contributed to raising the intellectual level of the people, nurturing talent, and training increasingly high-quality human resources for the cause of industrialization, modernization, and national development. The teaching staff and education management officials have inherited the ideology of President Ho Chi Minh, have continuously progressed, and their strength has grown ever greater.
President Ho Chi Minh was not only a national hero, a great politician, and a great cultural figure, but in the fullest and most representative sense, he was the greatest educator of the modern era. The first aspect of this great educator was his ability to inspire and encourage the aspirations of an entire nation and of each individual. Ho Chi Minh demonstrated the spirit of "personal example," using himself as a role model to influence, educate, unite, and persuade his comrades, students, and the people. His exemplary character—frugality, integrity, impartiality, and selflessness—and his boundless, profound, and far-reaching compassion, deeply permeated and contributed to the creation of values for the nation, the era, the Communist Party of Vietnam, and the Vietnamese people. He left a lasting mark on the cultural values, moral values, and character of the Vietnamese people, both present and future.
Dear comrades!
In the new context, in order to propel the country into an era of development and prosperity, standing shoulder to shoulder with the world's leading powers, the Party and State have identified education and training, along with science and technology, as top national priorities. Many important and groundbreaking policies have been implemented to ensure the continued development of education, achieving even greater results, creating the conditions and foundation for human development to meet the demands of the new era, and providing high-quality human resources for socio-economic development.
In response to new demands and tasks, the education sector will continue to deeply internalize and effectively apply Ho Chi Minh's thoughts on education; the thoughts, philosophy, and spirit of education, learning, self-study, and lifelong learning of President Ho Chi Minh.
Through this conference, the challenges facing the education sector in the coming period have been more deeply understood, and it is necessary to continue to recognize and effectively implement the following tasks:
The first,We must continue to research and further clarify President Ho Chi Minh's legacy on education. The greater and deeper this legacy becomes, the more we see its brilliance each day. The education sector needs to strengthen the dissemination and education of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style throughout the sector, especially among cadres, teachers, students, and university students. For students in general, especially high school students, it is necessary to continue promoting the study of the five teachings of Uncle Ho in a regular and effective manner.
Monday,Following, implementing, and promoting Ho Chi Minh's educational ideology in building a learning society and lifelong learning, fostering a spirit of self-study, as directed by General Secretary To Lam."Lifelong learning to dare to think, dare to speak, dare to act, dare to take responsibility, dare to sacrifice for the common good, in order to become a useful member of society";The General Secretary also gave instructions in the article ""Lifelong learning": "We are living in an era where knowledge, understanding, and insight will help people maximize their potential to take advantage of opportunities, effectively respond to challenges, and achieve sustainable development; it is also an era where the volume of human knowledge is increasing exponentially every day."To implement President Ho Chi Minh's ideology and the directives of General Secretary To Lam, the education sector will strengthen education to cultivate self-learning abilities, continuous learning skills, digital learning, digital application, and enhance digital literacy and innovation skills for learners, creating a new generation capable of responding to and adapting to the challenges of the times.
Tuesday,To improve the quality of comprehensive education, especially moral education, lifestyle, and revolutionary ideals, and to build a new generation of citizens who are comprehensively developed in terms of morality, intellect, physical health, and aesthetics. We must continue to learn from President Ho Chi Minh's spirit in constantly cultivating revolutionary ideals and national aspirations, raising both the intellectual and the national spirit of the people. We need to promote President Ho Chi Minh's methods of moral education and character development. In particular, we must promote the methods of self-cultivation, self-improvement, self-reflection, self-correction, self-regulation, self-discipline, and self-perfection. This embodies the spirit of thrift, integrity, impartiality, and selflessness. The challenges facing the nation in the new era are immense; both the intellect and character of the Vietnamese people need to be further enhanced to shoulder the responsibilities of the times.
WednesdayContinuing to nurture and develop the teaching staff and education management personnel is considered a decisive factor in the success of the reform process. Building a teaching staff requires exemplary conduct, in the spirit of "each teacher must be a shining example for students to follow," with a spirit and quality of dedication and sacrifice, striving to excel in teaching and learning no matter how difficult the circumstances. Teachers must become role models who constantly learn, innovate, improve their abilities and skills, and innovate teaching and learning methods. The immediate priority is to fully and effectively implement the Central Committee's resolutions on education, training, science and technology, and innovation.
Comrades!
Commemorating President Ho Chi Minh's birthday and the 80th anniversary of his first letter to the education sector, today's seminar allows us to reflect deeply on and thoroughly understand what he wrote in that letter, and his entire educational philosophy in general. Implementing these ideas correctly and creatively is a practical and timely endeavor. Our seminar today is not only significant in terms of morality and commemoration, but in essence, it is a crucial educational activity, a large-scale self-reflection and self-correction within our sector.
