With funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the European Union (FP7 / Marie Curie Actions / COFUND), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) launched the “Postdoctoral Researcher International Experience” (PRIME) funding programme in 2014 and has since supported postdoctoral exchanges by offering temporary work placements at German universities to candidates, instead of traditional scholarships. The funding covers a 12-month exchange period abroad, plus a 6-month “integration” period at a German university, where the recipients are employed for the entire duration of the exchange period.
