Graduate students majoring in social sciences and humanities (priority is given to those with a research focus on culture).
The scholarship program prioritizes candidates with a comparative research focus, with research in one or more Asian countries. The HYI Foundation will only fund candidates who continue their doctoral studies at the National University of Singapore.

Information on the Harvard-Yenching Institute-National University of Singapore Collaborative Research Fellowship Program
The Harvard-Yenching Institute and the National University of Singapore (including the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Institute of Asian Studies) have established a joint fellowship program. Candidates will apply to study at the same time as the PhD program of the National University of Singapore and the Harvard-Yenching Institute. Candidates must come from one of the Harvard-Yenching Institute's partner universities or research institutes in Southeast Asia, and have a research orientation in East Asian or Southeast Asian studies, with a mono- or multi-disciplinary approach. Candidates need to apply directly to the admissions office of the Graduate School, National University of Singapore.The deadline for registration with the National University of Singapore is 1 November 2021.Applicants are required to complete the HYI-NUS Collaboration Programme Application Form (available on the USSH website at the end of this article) and submit it together with the standard NUS Research Fellowship Application Form and any relevant documents required by the faculty/programme of their choice. Successful candidates will pursue a research fellowship at NUS and receive an NUS scholarship. They will study at NUS for 3 years as a regular student and study in the US for 1 academic year. The study period in Singapore will be sponsored by NUS for a maximum of 3 years, while the study period in the US will be sponsored by HYI. While studying in the US, candidates will study and conduct research on the Harvard University campus. If fieldwork is required, candidates can register for a field trip for a maximum of 1 semester (corresponding to 4 subjects) as a special student of Harvard. The accumulated student credits will be transferred back to NUS.
Note:The application process for this program is different from the Scholars program that USSH has previously published. Applicants do not directly apply through the HYI online application system. Instead, they need to apply for a PhD program at NUS.
