Harvard-Yenching Institute Scholars Program 2022-2023

In the 2022-2023 academic year, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, received an invitation from the Harvard-Yenching Institute for a scholarly program. The University was invited to nominate up to four prospective faculty members to apply for the program.

The Harvard-Yenching Institute prioritizes seeking out outstanding scholars withThe work orientation is the research orientation.(compared to application-oriented research). The Institute also prioritizes scholars whose research focus is comparative research, especially research between one or more Asian countries.

Summary of the Harvard-Yenching Institute Scholars Program: This program provides faculty members in the social sciences and humanities (not limited to Chinese Studies or East Asian Studies) with opportunities to study and conduct research inA period of 10 months (from August 2022 to May 2023) at Harvard University and/or other equivalent and suitable universities..

Each year, approximately 20 candidates are selected to become research fellows at the Harvard-Yenching Institute. Research fellows will have access to Harvard University's libraries and facilities. In addition, scholars will be provided with living expenses during their time at the Institute. Candidates and their university leaders will be notified of the selection results by mid-February 2022. Selection criteria include English proficiency, professional training (in most cases, candidates should have completed a doctoral degree), the quality and originality of the research proposal, the candidate's demonstration of in-depth knowledge, and the feasibility of the research at Harvard University and/or other major universities in the United States. In cases where candidates have similar qualifications, priority will be given to those who have not previously studied or conducted research at a US university.

Selected scholars will have the opportunity to work with faculty at Harvard University and/or other suitable equivalent universities, and will be required to present at least one scientific publication in English on their proposed research project during their time at the Institute.

The deadline for submitting applications is September 30, 2021.
