In the 2022-2023 academic year, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, received an invitation from the Harvard-Yenching Institute for a scholar program, under which the School was invited to nominateMaximum 04 candidates from among prospective lecturersapply for the program. In accordance with the mission of the Harvard-Yenching Institute, nominated scholars are those whohave expertise in social sciences and humanities, with a focus on cultural studies. The Harvard-Yenching Institute prioritizes seeking outstanding scholars withwork orientation is research orientation(vs. applied orientation). The Institute also gives priority to scholars whose research focus is comparative research, especially studies between one or more Asian countries.
Besides,Although the Harvard-Yenching Institute has no age limit for applicants, the program will still give priority to young scholars who are in the early stages of their research careers..
Summary of the Harvard-Yenching Institute Scholars Program: This program provides faculty in the social sciences and humanities (not limited to China Studies or East Asian Studies) with opportunities to study and conduct research in10-month period (August 2022 to May 2023) at Harvard University and/or other appropriate equivalent universities.
Each year, approximately 20 candidates will be selected to become research fellows at the Harvard-Yenching Institute. Fellows will have access to Harvard University’s libraries and facilities. In addition, scholars will be provided with a living allowance while working at the Institute. Applicants and their host university leaders will be notified of the selection results by mid-February 2022. Selection criteria include English proficiency, professional training (in most cases, candidates should have completed a doctoral degree), the quality and originality of the proposed research, the candidate’s demonstrated depth of knowledge, and the feasibility of the research if conducted at Harvard University and/or another major university in the United States. In cases where candidates are equally qualified, the program will give priority to candidates who have not had the opportunity to study/research at a US university before.
Selected scholars will have the opportunity to work with faculty at Harvard University and/or other appropriate equivalent universities, and are required to present at least one scientific publication in English on their proposed research project during their tenure at the Institute.
