On the afternoon of December 5, 2023, the final round of the Staff Football Tournament and the closing ceremony of the 2nd VNU Staff and Student Sports Festival 2023 took place in Hoa Lac. This was one of many activities jointly organized by the VNU Trade Union, the VNU Communist Youth Union, the Center for Physical Education and Sports, and the Center for University Urban Management to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Government's Decree on VNU (December 10, 1993 - December 10, 2023), the 117th anniversary of VNU's Traditional Day, and to celebrate the successful congresses of the VNU Trade Unions at all levels.
The sports festival is organized to encourage physical training, enhance exchange and learning, and strengthen bonds among individuals and units throughout VNU; to motivate a large number of staff and students to regularly practice sports to improve their health, serving their studies and work, and contributing to the strong development of VNU.
At the opening ceremony of this year's Sports Festival, athletes from 33 member and affiliated units participated in a parade, and more than 1,000 students took part in a mass performance. The athletes competed in various events.
Staff from 30 units competed in the following sports: tug-of-war, table tennis, athletics, and men's football. In the overall standings for staff, the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Sciences team ranked first with a total of 38 points; the University of Social Sciences and Humanities team ranked second, the International School team ranked third; followed by the University of Foreign Languages; the University of Education; the University Urban Management Center; the VNU Hanoi Agency;…
Students from 12 training units competed in the following sports: men's football, women's football, men's basketball, women's basketball, table tennis, athletics, men's volleyball, and women's volleyball. The top spot went to the University of Economics student team with a total of 152 points; the University of Technology student team came in second with 110 points; and the International University student team came in third with a total of 88 points.
Notably, the 2023 Men's Staff Football Tournament attracted 14 teams from grassroots trade unions under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Trade Union, divided into 4 groups A, B, C, and D. The group stage matches took place from October 14th to November 18th, 2023 at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Sports Complex Football Field (2 Pham Van Dong Street), while the final match and awards ceremony were held at the National Defense and Security Education Center Football Field in Hoa Lac.
The men's football team of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities won the championship cup of the 2023 men's staff football tournament for the third consecutive time.
Nguyen Van Thuy (Men's Football Team of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) received the award for Top Scorer.
Goalkeeper Trinh Van Bang (Men's football team of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) received the Best Goalkeeper award.
After several tense and dramatic qualifying matches, the teams from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Foreign Languages reached the final of the 2023 VNU Staff Men's Football Tournament. At the closing ceremony, the representative of the Organizing Committee, Vice Director of VNU Nguyen Hoang Hai, awarded the First Prize to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities team; the Second Prize to the University of Foreign Languages team; and the VNU Agency - World Bank Management Team and the Combined Team shared the Third Prize.
