On November 27, 2020, Mr. Obaid Saeed Al Dhaheri (Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates) visited and had an exchange with staff and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Attending the exchange was Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector of the University).

In his welcoming remarks to the Ambassador, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan expressed his admiration and desire to learn about the UAE's miraculous development story, from a poor country in the desert to a symbol of the modern world. Vietnam-UAE relations were established in 1993, but can be considered a continuation of the ties between the two nations from centuries ago, when Vietnam welcomed and interacted with ancient Arab merchants. The Ambassador's insights shared during the exchange will be very useful for Vietnamese students to learn from and draw lessons for the development of their country.

Professor Hoang Anh Tuan shared how he was inspired by the development story of the UAE.

Ambassador Obaid Saeed Al Dhaheri then presented on the development of the UAE in relation to the role of youth.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a young nation, having existed for only 49 years and possessing a very small population. The founding generations of this country faced hardship and difficulty in the barren desert, lacking food and resources for national development. The UAE's founders were always deeply concerned with finding a path to becoming a powerful nation that would bring happiness to its people. They succeeded, transforming the UAE into a global economic hub with modern financial centers, infrastructure, technology, tourism, and world-class constructions within a few decades. The UAE also achieved the dream of space exploration that other superpowers have pursued.

Ambassador Obaid Saeed Al Dhaheri expressed his admiration for Vietnamese culture when visiting museums in our country; he told Vietnamese students to appreciate the beauty of Vietnamese culture such as family ties.

Explaining the UAE's miraculous story, Ambassador Obaid Saeed Al Dhaheri shared that oil is only one part of the driving force behind its development. More importantly, the country's leaders have possessed foresight and determination to make the UAE a powerful nation. This is coupled with a focus on investing in education and intellectual development, resulting in remarkable advancements in science and technology, exemplified by the "Museum of the Future" in Dubai. On the other hand, the UAE has also preserved and promoted its cultural identity despite the rapid development of technology. In particular, young people are considered to play a crucial role in the UAE's development plans and strategies. This generation has contributed significantly with their knowledge, intellect, and creativity to the country's overall development.

School students ask questions to the Ambassador

In Vietnam, the Ambassador believes that young people make up a large proportion of the population, and therefore will become increasingly important to the country's development. For the students of the University, representatives of Vietnamese youth, the Ambassador sends a message that this is a golden time for students to develop themselves. You need to believe that you have the capacity to do many great things, as long as you have confidence, know how to seize opportunities, apply knowledge into practice, and learn from mistakes. You need to outline a vision for the future to master your own destiny, and furthermore, the country and the development of relations between the two countries.
