The topic “The press and the issue of social supervision and criticism” clarifies theoretical issues about the function and role of the press in social supervision and criticism, thereby affirming that social supervision and criticism is one of the most important functions of the press, and at the same time, it is an increasingly high requirement and demand of the public and social life for journalistic works. Aiming for highly critical works is the general trend of modern media in general and the press in particular.
The thesis surveys, studies and analyzes the content and form of expression of articles with content of social supervision and criticism on the amendment of the 1992 Constitution of 3 prestigious printed newspapers: Tuoi Tre TP Ho Chi Minh, Thanh Nien, Dai De Nhan Dan to see the effectiveness as well as frankly acknowledge some limitations in the press performing its role of social supervision and criticism.
Through assessing the current status of social supervision and criticism of 3 newspapers with the event of amending the Constitution in 1992, the thesis makes some comments and boldly proposes some recommendations to contribute to improving the quality of social supervision and criticism of the press in the coming time.

The thesis titled “The Press with social oversight and criticism” aims to clarify the theoretical aspect of social oversight and criticism of the press, thus affirming social oversight and criticism is one of the most important functions of the press. This is also an increasing demand of the public and the society towards press works. Reaching towards highly critical works is a common trend of modern media in general and journalism in particular.
This thesis provides a survey and analysis of content and formats of articles published with critical arguments on the revision of the 1992 Constitution on 3 prestigious printed newspapers, namely Ho Chi Minh city's Youth Newspaper, The Youth Newspaper, People's Representative Newspaper to highlight the efficiency as well as recognize the press' limitation in fulfilling their role of social criticism and oversight.
By assessing the situation of social criticism and oversight of the three newspapers in response to the revision of the 1992 Constitution, the thesis provides a number of comments and proposals straightforward suggestions for quality improvement of the press' social criticism and oversight in the future.
