10. Summary of the results of the thesis: In addition to the Introduction, Conclusion and Appendix, the Content section of the thesis is divided into 3 chapters:
Chapter 1. Theoretical basis for the study of functional semantic layers of vocabulary. (In this chapter we present the theoretical basis for the concept of the nature of lexical meaning and how to distinguish semantic layers, semantic types and semantic dimensions of vocabulary).
Chapter 2. Practical semantic layer. (In this chapter we present in detail the concept of practical semantic layer and the applications of the basic word class in this semantic layer.)
Chapter 3. Intellectual and symbolic semantic levels. (In this chapter we present the concepts of intellectual and symbolic semantic levels with applications of the basic word classes in the two semantic levels above)
11. Regarding scientific significance: With the topic "Survey of functional semantic layers of English vocabulary related to Vietnamese (based on basic word class materials)". Specifically, the English vocabulary layer Land, mountain, water, river is related to Vietnamese. Based on the results of the thesis presented in the chapters, it shows that the vocabulary layer in general in both English and Vietnamese is very rich, expressed through semantic layers and types of lexical meaning to clarify the meanings of this basic word class. Thereby, it is possible to classify and understand each inherent meaning of vocabulary, requiring an increase in the time needed to accurately understand the meaning of the word in the context of speech, in some cases it can cause misunderstandings, this is especially common for foreign language learners. For the vocabulary layer where the word itself has many meanings, it can cause polysemy at a higher level than a sentence or even in a short paragraph. For example, in the following sentence, with the polysemous word “đẻ” in Vietnamese: “Anh anh đi rồi.” If only this sentence is left, the listener is not clear about the exact meaning of the sentence, the meaning of this sentence may mean that one person has just gone somewhere before the other person arrives or a euphemism that someone has just died, then this is a polysemous sentence. In fact, native speakers handle the ambiguity caused by polysemous words very well based on the information provided by the context. This is very important for foreign language learners to avoid errors in understanding the meaning.
12. Practical significance: Within the framework of the thesis, we only studied 4 English words: Land, Mountain, Water, River, but we used the method of meaning translation, comparison, and quantitative and qualitative methods to obtain the usage of each word above with specific meanings in each context and contribute to helping English learners have a more general view of the meaning of vocabulary. Specifically for each word such as:
Land: Has 4 main meanings and 78 derivative meanings, including 31 terms: land of milk and honey; a place of abundance (heaven's blessings). There are 17 compound words with hyphens: land-agency; land management agency and 61 compound words without hyphens: land crab; a type of crab that lives mainly on land and reproduces in the sea.
Mountain: Has 2 main meanings and 18 derivative meanings, including 4 terms: to make a mountain out of a molehill; to make a mountain out of a molehill. There are 2 compound words with hyphens: mountain-side; slope. There are 13 compound words without hyphens: mountain ash; Thanh Luong Tra tree.
Water: There are 20 main meanings and 160 derivative meanings, including 52 terms: red water; bloody urine. There are 100 compound words with hyphens: water-bed; water cushion. There are 45 compound words without hyphens: water hen; bird Sam Cam.
River: Has 5 main meanings and 22 derivative meanings, including 6 terms: sell somebody down the river; ban cheap ai. There are 15 compound words with hyphens: river-basin; river basin. There are 7 compound words without hyphens: riverside; riverside.
With the above data, it can be said that the practical significance of the thesis has contributed to foreign language learners in identifying the meaning of words more generally and accurately.

Official thesis title: The survey about functional meanings of English words related to Vietnamese (based on basic vocabulary)
Major: Linguistics Code: 60 22 01

Summary of the findings of the thesis
Besides the Open part, Conclusion and Appendix, the Thesis is divided into three chapters:
Chapter 1: The theoretical basis of the thesis that examines functional vocabulary. (In this chapter we present the theoretical basis of the concept of nature and vocabulary definitions to distinguish the meaning of the thesis, types and dimensions of meaning of lexical meaning).
Chapter 2: Practical stratum (In this chapter we describe in detail the concept of Practical stratum and the applications of these words.)
Chapter 3: intellectual stratum and symbolized stratum (In this chapter we present the concept of intellectual stratum and symbolized stratum with their applications of basic words on these stratums)
11. Meaning of science: With the thesis of “The survey about functional meanings of English words related to Vietnamese (based on basic vocabulary) detailed with 4 English words Land, mountain, water, river related to Vietnamese. Based on the results of the thesis is to be expressed in each chapter, the vocabulary that shows in general in both English and Vietnamese are very rich in which is expressed through the definition and types of vocabulary definitions to clarify the definition of the basic words. Thereby, we can classify and understand each inherent definition of lexical meaning, require increased time needed to understand the exact meaning of the word content in speech, in some cases it can be misleading, this happens especially for foreign language learners. For the words with multiple meanings themselves it can cause a high level of ambiguity than a sentence or even short paragraphs For example, in the following sentence, the word has meant “go” in Vietnamese: “He's gone. 'If only this person can not hear the exact meaning of the sentence, the sentence may be only a moderate before going to the other or a euphemism that someone has died, so this is the most significant. In fact, native speakers very well handled by the phenomenon of ambiguity from ambiguity caused based on contextual information provided. This is most notable for language learners to avoid errors in the interpretation of meaning.
12. Practical significance: In the framework of thesis studies only 4 English words: Land, Mountain, Water, River so we used methods, for comparison, using quantitative and qualitative methods to obtain the use of words on the specific meaning in each speech and contribute to learners of English have an overview over the meaning of lexical. Such as:
Land: There are 4 main meanings and 78 derivative meanings, which has 31 terms: land of milk and honey, where full affluence (blessings of heaven). There are 17 hyphenated compound words: land-agency, property management and there are 61 words without hyphen: land crab, crabs live mostly on land and under the sea reproduction.
Mountain: There are 2 main meanings and 18 derivative meanings, which have four terms: to make a mountain out of a Molehill; what ripped her to. There are 2 hyphenated compound words: mountain-side; slopes. There are 13 compound words without hyphen: mountain ash; rowan.
Water: There are 20 main meanings and 160 derivative meanings, which has 52 terms: red water; bloody urine. There are 100 hyphenated compound words: water-bed, waterbeds. There are 45 compound words without hyphen: water hen, coot.
River: There are 5 main meanings and 22 derivative meanings, which has 6 terms: sell somebody down the river; sell one. There are 15 hyphenated compound words: river-basin, river basin. There are 7 compound words without hyphen: riverside, along the river bank.
With the above test data, It can be said about the practical implications of the thesis has contributed more to language learning the way to identify the meaning of generalized meanings and more precise.
