The thesis achieved the following results: 1. Generalizing the socio-political situation and Catholicism in the resistance war against the American imperialists, especially under the Second Republic. 2. The thesis analyzed, clarified and classified the forms of patriotic struggle of Vietnamese Catholics in Saigon: i) Patriotic struggle movement influenced by the Party; ii) Patriotic struggle movement under the leadership of progressive Catholics; iii) "Returning to the nation" movement. 3. The thesis pointed out the basic causes, significance, role and historical lessons of the patriotic struggle movement of Vietnamese Catholics.

11. Practical application:

Before becoming a believer, Catholics were Vietnamese with common traditional cultural values, including the tradition of patriotism and compatriots. In each specific historical period, that tradition was aroused and strongly promoted. In the current period, when the country entered a new page of history, opening up and integrating, the requirement for national solidarity is becoming increasingly important. From a historical perspective, studying the patriotic movement during the Second Republic period, the thesis hopes to find the foundations and positive values ​​to contribute to building the path of "accompanying the nation" of Catholics, which is currently encouraged and promoted by the Party and State of Vietnam.

12. Further research directions:

Continue to research Catholicism after 1975 on its integration and companionship with the nation in the new socialist environment in South Vietnam as well as after Doi Moi (1986).
