10. Summary of the thesis results:
Thesis"The study "Developing Agricultural Tourism in the Tan Cuong Tea Region, Thai Nguyen" aims to assess the potential and analyze the current state of agricultural tourism development in the research area. It identifies achievements, limitations, and their causes, and proposes appropriate solutions for the effective and sustainable development of agricultural tourism in the Tan Cuong tea region. The research results are expected to contribute to clarifying the value of the tea region not only as an agricultural production space but also as a cultural and tourism space capable of creating unique experiences for visitors.
The study comprises three main chapters, with the following important contributions:
Academic gap:Agricultural tourism has attracted considerable attention from scholars both domestically and internationally, with diverse research approaches regarding its concept, development conditions, impacts, and influencing factors. However, in-depth studies on agricultural tourism linked to tea products, especially in famous tea-growing regions like Xinjiang, remain limited. Furthermore, previous studies on tea tourism have largely approached it from the perspective of cultural tourism, tea-drinking culture, and experiences, while failing to fully investigate the relationship between agricultural resources, tea cultivation and processing, tea-growing landscapes, tea culture, and tourist experiences. Therefore, this thesis approaches the Xinjiang tea region from the perspective of agricultural tourism based on specialty teas, aiming to supplement a systematic approach to tourism development in this area.
Theoretical basis:This thesis systematizes theoretical issues concerning tourism and agricultural tourism, focusing on the concept, characteristics, role, development conditions, and impacts of agricultural tourism. Development conditions are considered across three main groups: rural ecological environment; agricultural products and services; and tourism products and services. The research applies the theory of sustainable tourism development and Leiper's tourism systems theory, while also inheriting the model of David Preece (2015) to build a suitable research framework.
This thesis focuses on evaluating the potential and current state of agricultural tourism development in the Tan Cuong tea region of Thai Nguyen province. The research content includes the rural ecological environment (natural and socio-cultural conditions, public policies, public infrastructure), agricultural products and services (attractiveness of unique products, participation of the local community), and tourism products and services (experiential activities, technical infrastructure, tourism promotion and marketing). The research results show that the Tan Cuong tea region has many advantages for developing agricultural tourism, notably its unique tea resources, tea hill landscapes, long-standing tea production traditions, and cultural values associated with the tea industry. Experiential activities in tea production, processing, and tasting have begun to take shape, contributing to promoting the Tan Cuong tea brand, creating jobs, and increasing income for local people. Besides the achievements, the research also points out some limitations such as inconsistent infrastructure and technical facilities, small-scale services, a lack of diverse tourism products, insufficient supplementary services, limited tourism service skills, uneven community participation, and ineffective promotion and marketing efforts.
Proposed solutions: Based on the assessment of the current situation and SWOT analysis, this thesis proposes a system of solutions for developing agricultural tourism in the Tan Cuong tea region in an effective and sustainable manner.
Theoretical contributions:This thesis contributes to supplementing the theoretical basis for developing agricultural tourism based on specialty tea regions, while expanding the research approach to tea tourism from the cultural and tea-tasting sphere to the link between agricultural production and tourism experiences. Furthermore, the research framework developed in this thesis can be used as a reference for studies on agricultural tourism development in localities with similar conditions.
11. Practical applications:
The research findings are valuable for state management agencies, local authorities, cooperatives, businesses, and the community in the process of policy planning and organizing the development of agricultural tourism in the Tan Cuong tea region. The assessment of the current situation and the proposed solutions can be applied in developing tourism products associated with tea cultivation, improving service quality, diversifying experiential activities, increasing community participation, and enhancing the economic value of tea products. Simultaneously, the solutions aim to preserve the landscape and tea culture, develop livelihoods for the people, and contribute to building the Tan Cuong tea region into a unique and sustainable agricultural tourism destination.
12. Future research directions:Factors influencing the intention of local communities to participate in tourism development in the Tan Cuong tea region, Thai Nguyen.
