10.Summary of the thesis results:

  • Retirees, business owners, and employees in organizations have better mental health indicators than other groups. Self-employed individuals and older adults who stay at home have less positive mental health status than other groups.
  • There were no significant differences in mental health status between men and women.
  • Groups living with children, living with others, and living alone had higher levels of depression/anxiety, with most mental health manifestations being worse than other groups. Groups living with their spouse in their own home had better mental health manifestations than other groups. Groups living with their spouse and children, and groups living with others, had average mental health status.
  • There are significant differences in mental health across age groups. As people get older, they tend to become more adaptable and increasingly content with life.

In summary, the overall mental health of elderly Vietnamese people is at an average level, with more positive than negative mental states.

11.Practical applicationsThis thesis has painted a comprehensive picture of the current state of mental health among the elderly and proposed solutions to improve their mental health for organizations, local authorities, families, and the elderly themselves. The thesis will also serve as a reference for research related to mental health in general and the mental health of the elderly in particular.

11.Summary of the findings of the thesis:

  • Retired people, business people and people from organizations, social unions have higher index of mental health than other people. Group of free labor and home aged people have negative mental health in comparison with other people.
  • There is no special difference between man and woman in mental health
  • Lonely persons, the aged people who live with others or younger generation and have high mental health of distress. Almost express of mental health are worser than others. The elderly people who live with others spouse or younger generation and have normal mental health.
  • There is big difference in mental health between younger and older people. The older people know how to adapt and satisfy to the life.

Briefly, situation of Vietnamese mental health is average, positive attitudes are more than negative attitudes.

12.Practical applicability: Thesis describes a general picture of mental health of aged people currently and proposes some solutions for enhancing the mental health for aged people in social unions, organizations, local governments, and for themselves at home. These shall be a reference document for researches and studies relating to mental health in general and for the aged people in particular.
