This period saw the emergence of two literary movements: realism and romanticism. The birth of the New Poetry Movement officially closed the period of medieval Vietnamese literature, opening a new direction for Vietnamese literature in general and Vietnamese poetry in particular. During this period, the Vietnamese language was cherished, respected, and used as a tool for poetic creation. Six-eight verse poetry – the "soul" of the nation – continued to develop during this period. The New Poetry movement nurtured and modernized the traditional Vietnamese six-eight verse form, presenting it to readers with a new appearance and style that was both familiar and novel. The emergence of the New Poetry movement marked a renewal of Vietnamese literature in all aspects: ideology, content, and form. During this period, poets expressed their deep and passionate love for their homeland, country, and people through descriptions of nature with simple, rustic, and unadorned features. They depicted healthy, gentle, and kind Vietnamese people with shy, discreet, and delicate love affairs. The six-eight verse form of this period returned closer to tradition, yet still carried the spirit of the new era. The art of six-eight verse poetry during this period also saw many significant innovations, evident in the arrangement and structure of stanzas and lines. The rhythm was fresh and novel, with new ways of enjambment, pauses, punctuation within lines, and impressive beginnings and endings. The imagery in Vietnamese lục bát poetry is rich in metaphors and symbolism, with suggestive rather than descriptive forms. The language is flexible, highly expressive, and musical. The lục bát form underwent significant changes during this period due to: shifts in social life, changes in the artistic thinking of the writers, and changes in the aesthetic tastes of the audience. It became rich in both content and form. However, this was only the beginning, a stepping stone to the innovative creations of modern lục bát. Modern lục bát from 1975-2000 was even more novel, fresh, and captivating. This affirms that lục bát remains enduring and a sacred asset of Vietnamese culture. The mission of Vietnamese poetry is to bring the essence of Vietnamese lục bát to readers worldwide, honoring its noble beauty. 11. Practical applications: None 12.
