10. Summary of the thesis results:
This thesis focuses on researching and presenting the following basic results:
In Chapter 1 – an overview of the topic "Career Guidance Issues for Rural Youth on VTV6 Television Channel," the author focuses on addressing some general theories about career guidance, career guidance communication, and communication methods for rural youth. Specifically, the research clarifies the concepts of "career guidance," "career guidance communication," and "rural youth." From existing problems in career guidance to current career guidance communication methods for rural youth, the study also outlines the Party and State's policies and guidelines on career guidance for rural youth.
Chapter 2 of this thesis analyzes and evaluates the current state of career guidance communication on television programs on VTV6 (Vietnam Television). Through two programs, "Born from the Village" and "My Choice" (2014), the author identifies the successes in communicating career guidance to rural youth on television. By surveying the two programs, analyzing real-world data from viewers, and conducting in-depth interviews with those involved, the thesis analyzes the effectiveness of these programs in career guidance for rural youth, such as replicating career guidance models, providing career orientation, instilling a love for their homeland, and fostering the will to overcome poverty. It is evident that VTV6 in general, and career guidance programs like "Born from the Village" and "My Choice" in particular, have made a significant contribution to career guidance for rural youth. These programs have helped the younger generation gain concrete, fresh perspectives on various aspects of finding and choosing a career for themselves. In particular, these programs become trusted companions, helping them develop into good people before achieving success through their own abilities.
Furthermore, the thesis also addresses many existing problems and limitations in career guidance for rural youth. Based on this, the thesis boldly proposes several solutions to improve the quality of career guidance programs on television for rural youth, as well as solutions related to human resources, facilities, technical infrastructure; and innovation in content and presentation... as outlined in Chapter 3 of the thesis.
The greatest achievement for the author – a communications professional from a family of farmers – is that the thesis has changed the perception of the need to leave one's homeland to start a business and change one's life. More than ever, the author understands that university is not the only path to success. No matter where one is, the homeland always welcomes and supports the success of every capable and ambitious individual striving for wealth on their native land. The author also boldly shared the need for career information and collaborated with local Youth Union officials to find appropriate and specific career guidance communication solutions for rural youth in the locality.
11. Practical applications:
This thesis is significant in highlighting the limitations of current career guidance communication for rural youth on television. Career guidance communication is not just about teaching vocational skills; that's only the tip of the iceberg. It must begin while rural youth are still in school. They need to be informed about available professions, understand their own abilities and suitability for the labor market, and, most importantly, learn about career models and exemplary entrepreneurs to emulate.
The research findings, both theoretical and practical, presented in this thesis will have an impact on relevant agencies such as the Central Youth Union, press agencies, television stations, and especially journalists, in re-evaluating the impact and effectiveness of communication in this area. Furthermore, through this research, producers will gain a better understanding and make appropriate investments in programs for rural youth. This will lead to the development of practical career guidance programs that meet the real needs of rural youth.
12. Future research directions:
If circumstances permit, this thesis could also open up many avenues for further research on career guidance: for example, research on the career guidance information needs of rural youth, research on reality TV programs about entrepreneurship for rural youth, etc.
13. Published works related to the thesis: None
