The firstThe thesis "The ASEAN Expanded Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM Plus) and Vietnam's Participation" identifies several factors shaping the formation and operational mechanisms of the ADMM Plus from 2010 to the present. These factors include international and regional (ASEAN) elements, and the role and influence of major powers outside the region (including China, the US, Australia, India, Japan, South Korea, Russia, and New Zealand) on ASEAN. The organizational structure includes: the Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM Plus), the ADMM Plus Senior Officials' Meeting (ADSOM Plus), the ADMM Plus Working Group Meeting (ADSOM Plus WG), and the Expert Group Meeting (EWG). In terms of composition, the ADMM Plus comprises the 10 ASEAN countries and eight Dialogue Partner countries, operating according to the established objectives and principles.
Monday,The thesis presented the results of the cooperation process within ADMM Plus through the First ADMM Plus Conference (2010), the Second ADMM Plus Conference (2013), and the expert groups on Humanitarian Assistance – Disaster Relief (HADR), Maritime Security (MS), Military Medicine (MM), Counter-Terrorism (CT), Peacekeeping (PKO) in the periods 2011–2013, 2014–2016 and the Humanitarian Mine Action Expert Group (HMA), period 2014–2016. During the period 2011–2013, the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Expert Group and the Military Medical Expert Group conducted a joint field exercise in Brunei in June 2013; the Counter-Terrorism Expert Group conducted an exercise in Bogor/Indonesia in September 2013; and the Maritime Security Expert Group conducted a field exercise in Sydney/Australia in early October 2013; in addition, other expert groups also conducted tabletop exercises.

11. Summary of the findings of the thesis:
Firstly,the thesis “ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting Plus and Vietnam's participation” has pointed out some formative factors and the operating mechanism of ADMM-Plus since 2010. These factors include international and regional (ASEAN) ones, the role and influence of powerful countries outside the region (including China, the USA, Australia, India, Japan, South Korea, Russia and New Zealand) on ASEAN. The organizational mechanism includes: the ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus), the ASEAN Defense Senior Officials' Meeting Plus (ADSOM-Plus), ADSOM-Plus Working Group (ADSOM-Plus WG), Expert's Working Group (EWG). In terms of component, ADMM-Plus consists of 10 ASEAN countries and 8 Dialogue Partner countries, operates according to proposed objectives and principles.
Secondly,the thesis has presented results of the cooperation in ADMM-Plus through the first and second ADMM-Plus (in 2010 and 2013 respectively), as well as Humanitarian Assistant and Disaster Rescue (HADR), Maritime Security (MS), Military Medicine (MM), Counter-Terrorism (CT), Peacekeeping Operations (PKO) Expert's Working Group during periods from 2011 to 2013, and from 2014 to 2016, and Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) from 2014 to 2016. From the year of 2011 to 2013, the HADR EWG and MM EWG conducted a Field Training Exercise (FTX) in Brunei (June 2013), the CT EWG conducted a FTX in Bogor, Indonesia (September 2013), and the MS EWG conducted a FTX in Sydney, Australia (October 2013). In addition, all other EWGs also conducted Table Top Exercises (TTX).
Thirdthe thesis has shown Vietnam's active participation as the host of the first ADMM-Plus, as well as contributions in the second ADMM-Plus including (1) the proposal of a new field of cooperation called “Responses to Unexploded Ordnance after wars and regional conflicts” (Humanitarian Mine Action), which has received support from all of the ADMM-Plus' Defense Ministers, (2) being the co-chair of the HADR EWG (from 2011 to 2013), HMA EWG (from 2014 to 2016), and other EWGs. The thesis has also estimated the potential of ADMM-Plus, given the pros and cons, hence brought out some recommendations for Vietnam's Ministry of National Defense's participation in ADMM-Plus in the near future.
