Childhood Adverse Experiences (ACEs) are prevalent in the population and exhibit long-lasting, robust associations with risk behaviors, health conditions, and diseases in adults. This study provides an overview of ACEs and their relationship with mental health disorders in adults. Additionally, the research reports the the process of assessment and applying of Cognitive - Behavioral Therapy as a psychological intervention for a case with a history of ACEs and marijuana abuse. The intervention aims to reduce symptoms of trauma (1), enhance self-esteem (2), improve interpersonal interactions (3), and decrease the frequency of cannabis use and risk behaviors (4).
- Practical applicability:
The thesis presents empirical evidence demonstrating the efficacy of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy in alleviating symptoms in individuals with a history of childhood adverse experiences and risk behaviors. Techniques related to relaxation, mindfulness, and cognitive restructuring of CBT therapy, are employed and found to be highly suitable in this case.
