Having begun learning calligraphy at the age of 5 and officially pursuing it at 19, Mr. Miyata Tempu has since achieved numerous certifications and prestigious awards in the field of calligraphy in Japan. Furthermore, with the desire to provide students with systematic and accurate calligraphy instruction from the very beginning, Mr. Miyata Tempu and his colleagues have opened calligraphy classes for people of all ages at Bokuan School in Osaka, Japan.

This was the first time the two Japanese artisans had visited Hanoi, and they chose the Japanese Studies department as the venue to introduce Japanese calligraphy. During the class, students majoring in Japanese Studies were not only guided by their teachers on introductory knowledge of calligraphy, such as how to use the inkstone, grind the ink, hold the brush, and write basic strokes, but also learned about the core spiritual values hidden within each movement of calligraphy.

After the class, artists Miyata Tempu and Miyata Youhu shared: "The students were very enthusiastic and serious during the lesson. In just two hours, many students, who knew absolutely nothing about calligraphy, made rapid progress, using the correct techniques and completing their own works. 'The class was very fun and interesting. I was only afraid of tearing my artwork,' said one Japanese Studies student."

Following this event, representatives from the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Department of Japanese Studies, along with the two artisans, exchanged ideas and decided to implement more collaborative activities and exchanges on traditional Japanese culture in the future.
