Specialization: Sociology; Code: 60.31.30 9. Scientific Advisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Van Hai, Institute of Sociology. 10. Summary of thesis results: Regarding family structure: Compared to the period before 1986, the transformation of family structure in Tam Son has truly taken place. First, the family size has decreased from 4.75 people/family to 3.92 people/family; in which, the number of families with 5 people or fewer has increased, while the number of families with 6 people or more has decreased significantly. The number of two-generation families has also increased, while the number of three-generation families has decreased. Family types are more numerous and diverse in the current period, with the number of families with few relationships (two relationships or fewer) increasing, while the number of families with many relationships (three relationships or more) tends to decrease. Regarding family functions: compared to before 1986, the demand for the number of children and the actual number of children born to each couple in Tam Son have both decreased; However, in the last four years or so, the trend of having more children has returned to the village. Besides that, the economic function of the family has also changed; the family now truly plays the role of a production unit, operating according to the supply and demand laws of the market; the number of occupations has increased, and the purpose of production has changed towards primarily selling to the market. The social role of the family has changed but is still maintained. 11. Practical application: The research results provide additional scientific arguments for managers, especially those in Tam Son, in formulating policies and measures for rural development, including policies on marriage and the role of households in preserving and promoting family values in the context of international economic integration in general, as well as integration between Tam Son and other regions in Vietnam in particular. 12. Future research directions: Family transformation needs to be studied from many aspects, as well as the impacts of these changes on socio-economic life. However, within the framework of a master's thesis, many aspects of family transformation, including structure and function, have not been thoroughly explored. Furthermore, the thesis only compares transformations in two periods (before and after the Doi Moi reforms, with a radius of 25 years), while the period even earlier has not been explored. Therefore, the author plans to develop the thesis further in the direction of: exploring another historical period and analyzing more aspects of family transformation. 13.
