Summary of Thesis Results: The thesis focuses on exploring several key issues including: a) The formation and development process of the Vietnam-China border region. b) Characteristics of ethnic groups and socio-economic dynamics of the inhabitants of the Vietnam-China border region, differences and similarities in approaches and classification of ethnic groups in the border region. c) Border region development programs of Vietnam and China from 1990 to the present, content, nature of development programs and their impact on cross-border ethnic communities. Focusing on the three issues mentioned above, the thesis has: 1) Provided a historical and comparative view of the formation and development of the concept of border regions and border region development strategies in Vietnam and China; 2) Analyze the ethnic characteristics and cross-border socio-economic relationships of local communities, and view them as the driving force of sustainable border region development; 3) Provide a comparative overview of border region development policies and practices since 1990 based on an analysis of several specific programs. 12.
