Major: Sociology; Code: 60 31 30 9. Scientific Advisor: Dr. Truong An Quoc, Department of Sociology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi 10. Summary of thesis results: Through the research, investigation, and survey process, the thesis has obtained certain results: - The thesis has identified the needs and desires of young people regarding employment and careers. The investigation and survey showed that a large percentage (59%) of young people believe that finding a job and choosing a career is difficult, and 25.5% believe it is very difficult. The biggest difficulties and obstacles young people face in the job search process are: A small number of jobs but too many applications; followed by the difficulty in finding a profession that matches their training. Faced with such difficulties in finding employment, young people prioritize job selection based on criteria such as a good working environment and conditions, job stability, and high income opportunities. However, criteria like career advancement, suitability to their field of study, alignment with their interests, and the ability to demonstrate their capabilities are considered important by a small percentage of young people. This demonstrates the flexible adaptation of young people in the process of integration. Nevertheless, there is a discrepancy between the job selection criteria set by young people and their current job satisfaction levels. Young people are not truly satisfied with their current jobs. The difficulties in finding employment and their needs and desires for jobs are also clearly reflected in their job turnover. A large percentage (60%) of young people have changed jobs (once, twice, or more than twice). Young workers are willing to accept temporary jobs and then seek and switch to better jobs. - Clarifying the methods of job searching and career selection. The main sources of information young people access to job searching and career selection are relatives, friends, and the internet, while information from television, newspapers, radio, job placement centers, and organizations/associations accounts for a small percentage of their access. Information from the internet varies depending on educational level; those with higher education have better access to job information online. The role of job placement centers and organizations/associations is still insufficient in providing advice and job information to workers in general and young workers in particular. This shows that young people mainly seek jobs through their social networks and social capital. - Assessing the ability to meet job and career requirements. An assessment of the current skill level of young people (English proficiency, computer skills, communication, teamwork, presentation skills) shows that communication skills are rated higher, followed by computer skills, while teamwork, presentation, and English proficiency are rated lower. During their employment, young workers must undergo retraining by businesses, agencies, and organizations to meet job requirements. They also need to constantly improve their knowledge and skills through continuous learning. Common methods include reading professional books and research materials, learning from and exchanging ideas with friends, colleagues, and supervisors (within the same workplace), and learning from and exchanging ideas with friends and colleagues (outside the workplace). Seeking advice from teachers and experts is less frequently used by young people. - Simultaneously, the study also offered several recommendations regarding employment and career opportunities for young people in the integration period within the region. 11. Practical application: The study provided an overview of the ability of young people to meet employment and career requirements in the integration period; the needs and choices of young people regarding employment and careers, as well as how they seek employment through specific survey data in the research area during the period 2005-2011, especially with the impact of joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) (officially effective date January 11, 2007). In addition, the study also offered several recommendations to help young people seeking employment find suitable jobs and careers in the integration period. Managers and policymakers have solutions to better utilize this workforce. 12. Further research directions: None. 13. Published works related to the thesis: None.
