Based on a survey of 309 individuals in a marital or dating relationship (mean age 29.07; 58.3% female), the study results showed:
- Power and commitment in a couple relationship are inversely related, meaning that the person with high power will decrease commitment in the relationship and conversely, the person with low power will increase commitment.
- Satisfaction, quality of alternatives, and investment are three partially mediating variables in the relationship between power and commitment.
- The study also found gender and age differences in power and commitment, with men having more power and women having more commitment in couples. People aged 26-35 had the most power, while those over 45 had the highest commitment to their partners.
