10. Summary of the thesis results:
This thesis analyzes the current state of research and development organizations in Vietnam in general, and the case of the Institute of Mechanics – Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in particular. From this, it identifies the problems the institute faces in linking research with training and production. Regarding training: although the Institute of Mechanics collaborates with the Department of Engineering Mechanics and Automation – University of Technology – Vietnam National University, Hanoi to train doctoral, master's, and undergraduate students, only a small number of doctoral students participate in research activities at the institute; the majority are primarily taught in classroom settings. Regarding production: having been established and operating under a planned economy for a long time, the Institute of Mechanics lacks experience and market orientation upon transitioning to a market economy. The institute's scientists and engineers have almost no close cooperation with the industry. Although some research results have potential applications, the institute's scientists are not concerned with the costs businesses would incur to apply the research results, nor with the competitiveness of the resulting applied products. Furthermore, the Institute of Mechanics has little experience in application-oriented research and design; it largely focuses on scientific achievements and lacks genuine interest in practical applications. Therefore, a solution is proposed to restructure the Institute of Mechanics to better integrate its research function with its training and production functions.

It shows the problems that IOMs have to encounter when combining research with education and production. Education: Although, IOMs has coorperating with Faculty of Engineering Mechanics and Automation - University of Technology - Hanoi National University to educate PhD, masters and university students but only a small number of PhD students participate in research activities. The remaining only study in classroom. Production: be established and operated in a planned economy for a long time. So, when changing to market economy, IOMs were inexperienced and not market-oriented. The scientists and engineers of the institute almost did not have close cooperation with the industry.
