10. Summary of thesis results:

The thesis has analyzed the current situation of research and development organizations in Vietnam in general and the case of the Institute of Mechanics - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in particular. From there, it pointed out the problems the institute encountered when linking research with training and production. Regarding training: although the Institute of Mechanics cooperates with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Automation - University of Engineering - Vietnam National University, Hanoi to train PhD students, masters, and undergraduates, only a small number of PhD students participate in research activities at the institute, the rest are mainly trained in class. Regarding production: due to being established and operating in a planned economy for a long time. When switching to a market economy, the Institute of Mechanics lacked experience and market orientation. The institute's scientists and engineers had almost no close cooperation with the industry. Although some research results have potential for application, the institute's scientists do not care about the costs that businesses must pay to apply the research results as well as the competitiveness of the applied products. Furthermore, the Institute of Mechanics has little experience in application-oriented R&D, mostly focusing on scientific achievements and not having a real concern for application. From there, a solution is proposed to restructure the Institute of Mechanics to link the research function with the training and production functions.

The thesis has analyzed the current status of R&D organizations in Vietnam in general and the Institute of Mechanics (IOMs) - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in particular. It shows the problems that IOMs have to encounter when combining research with education and production. Education: Although, IOMs has coorperating with Faculty of Engineering Mechanics and Automation - University of Technology - Hanoi National University to educate PhD, masters and university students but only a small number of PhD students participate in research activities. The remaining only study in classroom. Production: be established and operated in a planned economy for a long time. So, when changing to market economy, IOMs were inexperienced and not market-oriented. The scientists and engineers of the institute almost did not have close cooperation with the industry.
