Realizing the similarities in terms of genre, concept of war, and people in war, we decided to study the poetics of Bao Ninh's novel The Sorrow of War through comparison with two foreign novels: Nothing Strange in the West by Erich Maria Remarque and the novel Smoke and Fire by Henri Basbusse. The thesis delves into the comparative study of the character system, artistic space-time, art of plot organization, language and tone of the work. The comparison process has helped us realize that The Sorrow of War is a new experience in terms of novel poetics. Compared with the two novels recognized by the world as classics about war: Nothing Strange in the West and Smoke and Fire, The Sorrow of War has revealed and expressed some aspects of war. That is truly the writer's effort to integrate into the general flow of world literature. 3. The theme of war is still open, constantly moving. Bao Ninh confided that he was still not satisfied with what he had written in the work.
