Chapter 3. The impact of teaching about Vietnam in Nakhonphanom province.
All the important content in the thesis focuses on the progress towards teaching of overseas Vietnamese in Nakhon Phanom province.
Regarding the history of Vietnamese people migrating to Northeast Thailand, in 1946, Vietnamese people migrated from Laos to Northeast Thailand, to escape French colonialism during the Indochina War. At that time, Vietnamese people were distributed in the Northeast provinces. Therefore, Thai people called Vietnamese people "Khon Duon Op Pa Dop", "Old Vietnamese" or "New Vietnamese" according to the time they migrated to Thailand. Among them, Nakhon Phanom has the largest population of Vietnamese people immigrating compared to the Northeast provinces of Thailand. In fact, the immigration of Vietnamese people brought Vietnamese culture, language, especially the teaching of Vietnam to this locality.
Teaching about Vietnam in Northeastern Thailand in general and Nakhon Phanom province in particular began before 1946, at the same time as the migration of overseas Vietnamese. Dang Thuc Hua was the first person to start teaching overseas Vietnamese. In the first period, overseas Vietnamese were at war with France, overseas Vietnamese had to both study and prepare forces to fight against France. In 1928-1929, Ho Chi Minh came to Thailand. Uncle Ho taught and did many things for overseas Vietnamese. In short, during the time Dang Thuc Hua and Ho Chi Minh came to Thailand. Teaching overseas Vietnamese mainly focused on learning about the revolutionary path, Vietnamese language and life.
From 1946 to 2001, teaching was generally the most difficult compared to other periods, but overseas Vietnamese maintained a teaching style imbued with Vietnamese colors in Thailand. Because the Thai government forced overseas Vietnamese to avoid the police, they had to study in the kitchen or downstairs in the Vietnamese community, in the style of "Family School". They studied according to the Vietnamese curriculum such as: Math, Literature, Physics, Current Events... In 1975, teaching had to stop because of the relationship between Thailand and Vietnam. From 2002 to 2013, according to ASEAN policy, teaching about Vietnam received much more attention, especially the Vietnamese language.
Impact on Thai government policy towards overseas Vietnamese, government policy from time to time varies according to external and internal factors. Policy related to Thai citizenship, international relations, Thai and Vietnamese education policy.
Impact on preserving Vietnamese culture in the overseas Vietnamese community, the cultures of overseas Vietnamese have existed since the overseas Vietnamese came to Thailand. Therefore, they teach their children and grandchildren of each generation to maintain the cultural identity and Vietnamese language in the Vietnamese family community.
