The topic “Students and Facebook social network: an analysis of the development of social capital” (Survey at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Institute of Posts and Telecommunications Technology) has pointed out some impacts of Facebook on the development of social capital of students today. Through studying the social network Facebook and approaching theories of social interaction, the thesis has analyzed the situation of using Facebook social network among students, and at the same time pointed out the positive, negative, and peripheral effects of using Facebook on students' social interaction. Evidence from practice has affirmed the strong influence of this social network on students' habits and lifestyles.
When participating in Facebook, being exposed, exchanging, and interacting with different groups of people will help students strengthen their relationships with the people and in the small or large groups they participate in to share information effectively and maximally, helping to create a solid social network so that the process of developing students' social capital on Facebook is more effective.
Facebook affects students’ lives in many areas. Students are often affected by information on Facebook in all aspects of economics, politics, culture, society, and learning. However, depending on each piece of information, there are different levels of influence and impact on each student. First-year students are more affected by information on Facebook than final-year students.
Besides the positive aspects, using Facebook will create negative consequences for students' real life such as: reducing the ability to communicate in real life, being easily influenced by online opinions, reducing the ability to handle situations, making it difficult to share problems in reality; interacting in the virtual world can obscure the real person, affecting the psychology of self-affirmation, the ability to improve oneself in reality; Facebook gradually changes students' interaction habits, including many good habits being lost and replaced by many bad habits and negatively affecting students.
Facebook is a social network, but it has created real social capital that has a significant impact on students' lives through studying, finding accommodation, shopping, making new friends... Correlative factors about school, gender, academic performance, and student accommodation are all different. Specifically, students of the Faculty of Humanities use Facebook and social relationships on Facebook to receive documents about studying, finding accommodation, and making friends more than students of the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications. At the same time, female students are also more likely to use their relationships on Facebook to find accommodation than male students.
Thus, through the study, we have provided a better understanding of the current situation of Facebook usage among students. At the same time, we can see some aspects of Facebook's influence on student life, especially the development of social capital. Facebook has multi-dimensional impacts on students' learning activities, entertainment, and social relationships. In general, Facebook makes students' lifestyles more dynamic and more extroverted. However, there are still many issues to be raised in further studies.
11. Practical applicability: The topic analyzes and points out the impacts (positive, negative and marginal) of social networks (Facebook) on the social capital of students today. Thereby, conclusions and recommendations are drawn towards the ultimate goal of managing the use of Facebook effectively.
