11. Summary of the findings of the project:
The project presents a literature review on several studies regarding emotional distress, including concepts, characteristics, and theoretical approaches. Furthermore, the project mainly focuses on presenting the assessment and therapeutic intervention process for a case with emotional distress based on the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) approach. The established output goals include: (1) Increasing present-moment awareness, reducing the state of "freezing" or mindlessly scrolling on the phone to avoid reality; (2) Identifying and defusing from thoughts such as "I must be perfect" and "It's too late to start," viewing them merely as mental events rather than absolute truths; (3) Developing the capacity to hold feelings of distress and emptiness without resorting to self-harming behaviors to destroy them; (4) Recognizing oneself as the unchanging context (Self-as-context), unconstrained by labels like "I don't have enough time" or "a failure"; (5) Clarifying life values (creativity, peace, career, leisure) to break free from meaningless loops; (6) Taking small committed steps in learning to draw, meeting work deadlines, and stopping self-harming behaviors.
12. Practical applicability, if any:
The project provides empirical evidence that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy can be effectively applied in clinical practice for clients experiencing emotional distress. It outlines the step-by-step process of managing a clinical case under the ACT approach assessment, treatment planning, and intervention execution through core processes: Contact with the Present Moment, Acceptance, Defusion, Self-as-Context, Values, and Committed Action, resulting in observable practical improvements in the interfered case.
