Depression is a type of mental disorder with typical symptoms such as sadness, decreased interest in life, and fatigue in patients. Depressive disorders are increasingly common in children and adolescents, causing many difficulties for them in learning, social interaction, entertainment, and self-care. Through the case study method in clinical psychology, the thesis has assessed, diagnosed, defined the case, and provided psychological intervention for a teenager with special circumstances living in a social protection facility in Hanoi. The results of the study, assessment, and intervention show that adolescents with moderate depression have typical signs such as sadness, anxiety when emotionally separated, difficulty in thinking, and some aggressive behaviors. Factors related to depression in adolescents with special circumstances living in social protection facilities are the separation of the relationship with the foster mother, the conflict with the care staff. The intervention results show that the combination of behavioral activation therapy in depression intervention, psychological counseling and yoga practice initially brings certain effectiveness. The evaluation results after 8 psychological intervention sessions show that the children have improved in their relationships with people, reduced symptoms of depression, and have better adaptation to daily life.
11. Practical application:
The results obtained from the process of assessing, diagnosing and defining the case of a depressed adolescent show that the combination of behavioral activation therapy and Yoga is an effective intervention method, reducing depressive symptoms, improving social relationships, and enhancing the ability to adapt to daily life. Behavioral activation therapy and Yoga are also therapies with clear and easy-to-implement implementation processes. Therefore, the applicability of these therapies in the prevention and intervention of depressed adolescents is very high.
