Summary of the results of the thesis: The thesis is not beyond the purpose of clarifying the history of Vietnamese and regional maritime trade in the 16th - 18th century, but the approach focuses on the commercial center of Hoi An - Quang region, with the active role of the local maritime transport type, the ghe bau (ghe bau of Quang region). This work, on the one hand, answers the question about the position of Vietnam (specifically here, Quang region) in the Southeast Asian maritime trade network, on the other hand, aims to learn about the boat building techniques, the seafaring techniques of the Vietnamese people using traditional boats in an era of sailing trade that took place across all continents.
Reality has shown that each boat is a cultural product, a combination of many different factors (including function, technology, raw material sources, environment, economy, social context or tradition of that society), therefore, the study of traditional boats can also visualize many aspects of history such as economic, social, traditional cultural issues, environmental factors or people.
