10. Summary of the thesis results: The thesis aims to clarify the history of maritime trade in Vietnam and the region during the 16th-18th centuries, but the approach focuses on the Hoi An - Quang Nam trading center, with the active role of the local sea transport method, the "ghe bau" (Quang Nam "ghe bau"). This work, on the one hand, answers the question of Vietnam's (specifically Quang Nam) position in the Southeast Asian maritime trade network, and on the other hand, aims to understand the shipbuilding and seafaring techniques of the Vietnamese people using traditional boats in an era of sailing trade that took place across continents.

In reality, each boat is a cultural product, a combination of many different elements (including function, technology, raw materials, environment, economics, social context, or the traditions of that society). Therefore, studying traditional boats can reveal many aspects of history, such as economic, social, and cultural issues, environmental factors, and human factors. In the context of increasing research on the history of maritime trade in Southeast Asia, this thesis also contributes to visualizing the commercial landscape in Southeast Asia by outlining the types of water transport used during this period.
