Scientific supervisor: Dr. Tran Xuan Binh, Faculty of Sociology, University of Sciences, Hue University 10. Summary of the results of the thesis: The coastal area of Thua Thien Hue in recent years has also been a place with many complex developments related to climate change and natural disasters. The consequences of climate change and natural disasters in this area are quite large, the rate of poor households and re-poor households is always likely to increase. The unusual weather phenomena occurring in this area are mainly storms, floods, accompanied by sea erosion. This leads to other natural and social consequences such as: salinity, loss of houses and properties, difficulties in agricultural production, stagnant aquaculture, increasing labor migration... Faced with the above situation, the government and people have had timely responses such as: reducing production scale, changing crop and livestock varieties, protecting property before each rainy and stormy season, resettling people in landslide areas with housing areas increasingly suitable to people's needs, building storm-proof houses... However, these responses are only temporary, in the long term, measures need to be implemented on a comprehensive scale. Local people have long accumulated invaluable knowledge about natural management and exploitation, environmental protection, and health care. On that basis, they have had initiatives to minimize the negative impacts of climate change and natural disasters. However, for many reasons, indigenous knowledge as well as people's wishes and thoughts are facing many difficulties. The decline of natural resources, the difficulty in developing large-capacity fishing vessels, the unsatisfactory support of development programs that the State is implementing, and the lack of financial resources. The State's policies to support people in minimizing the negative impacts of climate change and preventing and mitigating natural disasters still have many shortcomings. Authorities at all levels have not fully assessed the severity of climate change. Therefore, over the past many years, the policies that have been and are being implemented in this area have only focused on immediate goals such as building infrastructure, investing in resettlement, supporting livelihoods, and reducing poverty. Integrating climate change response goals into national target programs or other development programs faces many difficulties, partly because financial regulations have not been clarified, and partly because authorities at all levels have not been proactive in integrating them into the planning and implementation of socio-economic development plans in general. 11. Practical applicability: The results of this study have important implications for policy making because different social, economic, and structural support measures can be developed and implemented based on differences in the behavior of each group of people.

Summary of the findings of the thesis: Coastal areas of Thua Thien Hue also has the many complicated changes related to climate change and natural disasters in recent years. Consequences of climate change and natural disasters in the region are quite large, the poverty rate and re-poverty are always able to rise. The unusual weather phenomena occur in this area mainly storms, floods, with sea erosion phenomenon. This leads to the consequence of the nature as well as society such as: saline status, loss of homes, property, agricultural difficulty production, aquaculture stagnating, labor migration is likely to increase ... To address the government and people have response in time such as: reducing production scale, changing varieties of plants and animals, protecting properties prior to each rainy season, resettlement of people in landslide region with area of houses more and more relevant to the needs of the people, building house responding storm ... However, this response is just ahead, in the long – term we need to make the methods completely. Local people have concluded the invaluable treasure of knowledge on the management and exploitation of nature, environmental protection, health care in the long time. On that basis, they have had the initiatives to reduce the negative impact of climate change and natural disasters. However, for various reasons, the local knowledge as well as desiring, thinking of the people are faced with many difficulties. Depletion of natural resources, the difficult situation in the development of fishing capacity, the support has not been as desired development program by gorverment, the lack of resources finance. Policies to support the poorer in reducing the negative impacts of climate change on natural disaster prevention and mitigation of the government are still insufficient. The government levels have not fully assessed the severity of climate change. Therefore, many years, the policies have been made in this area just as important targets such as building infrastructure, investment resettlement, livelihood support, poverty reduction. The integrated response to climate change objectives in the national target programs or other development programs get difficult, partly due to financial yet to be cleared, in part because the regulations they have not really actively integrated in planning and directing the implementation of socio-economic development plan in general. 12. Practical applicability, if any: The results of this study have important implications on policy because of the social support measures, different economic structures can be developed and implemented based on the differences in the behavior of each group.
